TL;DR: The influence of Assam crude on photosynthetic O/sub 2/ evolution as well as upon its electron transport system in Anabaena doliolum, a heterocystous blue-green alga (cyanobacterium), has been examined.
Abstract: It has been suggested that the toxic effects of oils possibly occur either on photosystem I (PS I) or II (PS II) of the Z scheme, or perhaps but less likely, on the CO/sub 2/ fixation side of photosynthesis. The primary effect of petroleum may be through direct action on the energy yielding electron transport system. Since no information is available establishing the action of oils on PS I or II, or on the redox coupling between the two photosystems, the present study was undertaken. The influence of Assam crude on photosynthetic O/sub 2/ evolution as well as upon its electron transport system in Anabaena doliolum, a heterocystous blue-green alga (cyanobacterium), has been examined. A. doliolum and other heterocystous cyanobacteria are widely distributed in soil and aquatic ecosystems, and represent an important group of free-living, nitrogen fixing microorganisms.

TL;DR: An investigation into the helminth parasitic infections of domestic fowl in a subtropical area of India, based on an autopsy of 532 chickens, revealed a 90.9% prevalence of infection and Capillaria contorta was recorded for the first time from fowls in India.
Abstract: An investigation into the helminth parasitic infections of domestic fowl in a subtropical area of India, based on an autopsy of 532 chickens, revealed a 90.9% prevalence of infection. 10 species of helminths were encountered, of which Capillaria contorta was recorded for the first time from fowls in India. Ascaridia galli was the most prevalent species, followed by Raillietina spp. and Heterakis gallinae. The infection by trematodes appeared to be very rare. The helminth fauna of fowls in this climatic area was compared with that of fowls in other areas of the world and found to differ in respect of prevalence and incidence of various parasitic species. The role of the climate in the distribution and in regulating populations of parasitic species is discussed.

TL;DR: In this paper, the anticestodal efficacy of Strobilanthes discolor leaf extract was investigated using Hymenolepis diminuta-rat experimental model, where the effects of leaf extract were adjudged by monitoring the eggs per gram of faeces (EPG) counts and percentage worm recovery rates following treatment with methanol leaf extract of this plant to different groups of rats harboring Heteroneptic diminuta infections.

TL;DR: These sutures offer improved healing along with excellent antimicrobial properties and appear to be promising material against surgical infection.
Abstract: This study deals with the development of bioactive poly(ethylene terephthalate) surgical suture by adopting the immobilization route with bioactive nanogels and chlorhexidine. Carbon dioxide plasma...
