Abstract: The process of reflection is analysed into three components ‐an ego‐driven purpose, a restructuring capability, and a transforming perspective. Different types of reflection are argued to be instances of cognitive restructuring determined by purpose and by context. Procedures for resolving contradictions in the literature concerning ways in which ‘reflective teaching’ can be fostered are also suggested. It is argued that adopting any single model of ‘reflective practice’ can be unnecessarily restrictive given the ubiquity of the reflective process. Finally, the danger of claiming too much for a ‘reflective practitioner’ model is set beside clear benefits gained from promoting it.

Abstract: A system for low-latency, high-resolution, continuous motion panoramic video imaging includes a plurality of high-resolution video cameras, each video camera generating about at least 500 kilopixel near-real time video. The cameras can be supported for positioning the plurality of cameras at predetermined angular locations to generate a full 360 degree field of view. The system can also include an image processor for processing video image signals in parallel and providing panoramic images. In one embodiment, the system can include a display to provide seamless panoramic images.

Abstract: The costs of remedial work, and the radon level reduction achieved, have been studied in a series of domestic properties in Northamptonshire, which is a radon affected area. The cost-effectiveness of the series is similar to published theoretical estimates for proposed national remediation programmes, and five times more effective than our similar analysis for the National Health Service workplace, if it is assumed that 100% of householders discovering levels above 300 Bq m-3 implement remediation. In practice, in the UK, far fewer of those who arrange an initial radon test proceed to remediation, but this domestic programme could be cost effective if more than 5% carry out remediation. Our series confirms that a considerable number of householders with radon levels in the 200 to 300 Bq m-3 range do not seek or implement remediation work.

Abstract: Summary Limiting global warming to 2°C or less compared with pre-industrial temperatures will require unprecedented rates of decarbonization globally. The scale and scope of transformational change required across sectors and actors in society raises critical questions of feasibility. Much of the literature on mitigation pathways addresses technological and economic aspects of feasibility, but overlooks the behavioral, cultural, and social factors that affect theoretical and practical mitigation pathways. We present a tripartite framework that “unpacks” the concept of mitigation pathways by distinguishing three factors that together determine actual mitigation: technical potential, initiative feasibility, and behavioral plasticity. The framework aims to integrate and streamline heterogeneous disciplinary research traditions toward a more comprehensive and transparent approach that will facilitate learning across disciplines and enable mitigation pathways to more fully reflect available knowledge. We offer three suggestions for integrating the tripartite framework into current research on climate change mitigation.
