Retention sans frontieres: issues for financial service retailers

Abstract: This paper develops an outline framework which conceptualises customer retention in financial services retailing. Preliminary investigations through interviews with managers responsible for retention were conducted. These supported further investigation of the framework. The organisations surveyed appear not to have embraced the dimensions of retention as identified, although they recognised the issues. Problematic areas involve cultural change and maintaining staff commitment in an uncertain labour market. Reasons for the slow adoption of retention are suggested and some proposals put forward for further consideration.

Evidence-based management of recurrent miscarriages

Abstract: Recurrent miscarriages are postimplantation failures in natural conception; they are also termed as habitual abortions or recurrent pregnancy losses. Recurrent pregnancy loss is disheartening to the couple and to the treating clinician. There has been a wide range of research from aetiology to management of recurrent pregnancy loss. It is one of the most debated topic among clinicians and academics. The ideal management is unanswered. This review is aimed to produce an evidence-based guidance on clinical management of recurrent miscarriage. The review is structured to be clinically relevant. We have searched electronic databases (PubMed and Embase) using different key words. We have combined the searches and arranged them with the hierarchy of evidences. We have critically appraised the evidence to produce a concise answer for clinical practice. We have graded the evidence from level I to V on which these recommendations are based.

Measuring quality of life in people with aphasia: the Stroke Specific Quality of Life Scale.

Abstract: Assessing health related quality of life (HRQOL) in people with communication disabilities is a challenge in health related research. Materials used to assess HRQOL are often linguistically complex and their mode of administration usually does not facilitate people with communication disabilities to give their experiences. We are currently running a medium scale study (80 participants) which aims to explore the HRQOL of people with long-term aphasia and to assess the psychometric properties and the acceptability of the Stroke Specific Quality of Life Scale (SS-QOL) (Williams et al. 1999) as a single measure for the assessment of HRQOL in this population. Here the initial stages of modifying the SS-QOL for use with people with aphasia will be presented. We will concentrate on the process of making the scale communicatively accessible to people with aphasia and increasing its content validity with this population group.

Abstract: The British Cardiac Society commissioned this report to help address inconsistencies in the terminology for acute coronary syndromes and wide variations in the threshold for the diagnosis of myocardial infarction (MI) depending on the assay performed, the precision, and the sensitivity. In addition, several publications have highlighted potential problems with the application of the European Society of Cardiology(ESC)/American College of Cardiology (ACC) consensus document published in 2000. A revision process has been initiated under the guidance of the ESC, the ACC, and the American Heart Association (AHA). The purpose of this report is to help inform the next revision of the ESC/ACC/AHA guidelines for the diagnosis of MI.
