Abstract: This technical note studies the problem of designing reliable H ∞ controllers with adaptive mechanism for linear systems. A new method for designing indirect adaptive reliable controller via state feedback is presented for actuator fault compensations. Based on the on-line estimation of eventual faults, the proposed reliable controller parameters are updated automatically to compensate the fault effects on systems. A notion of adaptive H ∞ performance index is proposed to describe the disturbance attenuation performances of closed-loop systems. The design conditions are given in terms of solutions to a set of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). The resultant designs can guarantee the asymptotic stability and adaptive H ∞ performances of closed-loop systems even in the cases of actuator failures. The effectiveness of the proposed design method is illustrated via a numerical example.

Abstract: An ionic liquid/aqueous two-phase system based on the hydrophilic ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride (BmimCl) and K(2)HPO(4) has been employed for direct extraction of proteins from human body fluids for the first time. Proteins present at low levels were quantitatively extracted into the BmimCl-rich upper phase with a distribution ratio of about 10 between the upper and lower phase and an enrichment factor of 5. Addition of an appropriate amount of K(2)HPO(4) to the separated upper phase results in a further phase separation, giving rise to an improved enrichment factor of 20. FTIR and UV spectroscopy demonstrated that no chemical (bonding) interactions between the ionic liquid and the protein functional groups were identifiable, while no alterations of the natural properties of the proteins were observed. The partitioning of proteins in the two-phase system was assumed to have been facilitated by the electrostatic potential difference between the coexisting phases, as well as by salting out effects. The system could be applied successfully for the quantification of proteins in human urine after on-line phase separation in a flow system. The use of an ionic liquid, as a green solvent, offers clear advantages over traditional liquid-liquid extractions, in which the use of toxic organic solvents is unavoidable.

Abstract: In many practical important cases, a massive dataset can be represented as a very large network with certain attributes associated with its vertices and edges. Stock markets generate huge amounts of data, which can be use for constructing the network reflecting the market’s behavior. In this paper, we use a threshold method to construct China’s stock correlation network and then study the network’s structural properties and topological stability. We conduct a statistical analysis of this network and show that it follows a power-law model. We also detect components, cliques and independent sets in this network. These analyses allows one to apply a new data mining technique of classifying financial instruments based on stock price data, which provides a deeper insight into the internal structure of the stock market. Moreover, we test the topological stability of this network and find that it displays a topological robustness against random vertex failures, but it is also fragile to intentional attacks. Such a network stability property would be also useful for portfolio investment and risk management.

Abstract: In this paper, the cooperative adaptive fault tolerant fuzzy tracking control (CAFTFTC) problem of networked high-order multiagent with time-varying actuator faults is studied, and a novel CAFTFTC scheme is proposed to guarantee that all follower nodes asymptotically synchronize a leader node with tracking errors converging to a small adjustable neighborhood of the origin in spite of actuator faults. The leader node is modeled as a higher order nonautonomous nonlinear system. It acts as a command generator giving commands only to a small portion of the networked group. Each follower is assumed to have nonidentical unknown nonlinear dynamics, and the communication network is also assumed to be a weighted directed graph with a fixed topology. A distributed robust adaptive fuzzy controller is designed for each follower node such that the tracking errors are cooperative uniform ultimate boundedness (CUUB). Moreover, these controllers are distributed in the sense that the controller designed for each follower node only requires relative state information between itself and its neighbors. The adaptive compensation term of the optimal approximation errors and external disturbances is adopted to reduce the effects of the errors and disturbances, which removes the assumption that the upper bounds of unknown function approximation errors and disturbances should be known. Analysis of stability and parameter convergence of the proposed algorithm are conducted that are based on algebraic graph theory and Lyapunov theory. Comparing with results in the literature, the CAFTFTC scheme can minimize the time delay between fault occurrence and accommodation and reduce its adverse effect on system performance. In addition, the FTC scheme requires no additional fault isolation model, which is necessary in the traditional active FTC scheme. Finally, an example is provided to validate the theoretical results.
