TL;DR: A review of the salinity measurement technology based on the optical fiber sensor is presented in this article, where the authors compare the performance of various sensing structures and analyses the advantages and disadvantages of different sensors.
Abstract: A review of the salinity measurement technology based on the optical fiber sensor is presented. The principles of optical fiber measurement, the structures of probes and the characteristics of various sensing structures are concerned. Firstly, this paper discusses the relationship between the salinity and refractive index, and the effect of ion pairs on the refractive index. Secondly, four methods of direct or non-direct measurements of salinity are summarized, including optical refraction method, optical fiber grating, optical interference and surface plasmon effect. Subsequently, the article compares performances of various sensing structures and analyses the advantages and disadvantages of different sensors. Finally, a prospect of salinity measurement requirement and the development direction of fiber-optic sensors in this area are addressed.

TL;DR: In this article, a two-prong strategy is demonstrated to stabilize polypyrrole (PPy) film by growing it on a functionalized partial-exfoliated graphite (FEG) substrate and doping it with β-naphthalene sulfonate anions.
Abstract: Polypyrrole (PPy) is a promising pseudocapacitive material for supercapacitor electrodes. However, its poor cycling stability is the major hurdle for its practical applications. Here a two-prong strategy is demonstrated to stabilize PPy film by growing it on a functionalized partial-exfoliated graphite (FEG) substrate and doping it with β-naphthalene sulfonate anions (NS−). The PPy electrode achieves a remarkable capacitance retention rate of 97.5% after cycling between −0.8 and 0 V versus saturated calomel electrode for 10 000 cycles. Moreover, an asymmetric pseudocapacitor using the stabilized PPy film as anode also retains 97% of capacitance after 10 000 cycles, which is the best value reported for PPy-based supercapacitors. The exceptional stability of PPy electrode can be attributed to two factors: 1) the flexible nature of FEG substrate accommodates large volumetric deformation and 2) the presence of immobile NS− dopants suppresses the counterion drain effect during charge–discharge cycling.

TL;DR: The HNRNPL-bound RNA landscape is defined by RNA immunoprecipitation coupled with next-generation sequencing and linked these RBP–RNA interactions to changes in RNA processing, revealing H NRNPL and its RNA clients as players in prostate cancer growth and potential therapeutic targets.
Abstract: Alternative RNA splicing plays an important role in cancer. To determine which factors involved in RNA processing are essential in prostate cancer, we performed a genome-wide CRISPR/Cas9 knockout screen to identify the genes that are required for prostate cancer growth. Functional annotation defined a set of essential spliceosome and RNA binding protein (RBP) genes, including most notably heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein L (HNRNPL). We defined the HNRNPL-bound RNA landscape by RNA immunoprecipitation coupled with next-generation sequencing and linked these RBP–RNA interactions to changes in RNA processing. HNRNPL directly regulates the alternative splicing of a set of RNAs, including those encoding the androgen receptor, the key lineage-specific prostate cancer oncogene. HNRNPL also regulates circular RNA formation via back splicing. Importantly, both HNRNPL and its RNA targets are aberrantly expressed in human prostate tumors, supporting their clinical relevance. Collectively, our data reveal HNRNPL and its RNA clients as players in prostate cancer growth and potential therapeutic targets.
