TL;DR: A detailed account is given of the total synthesis of human calcitonin M, the hypocalcaemic hormone possessing the dotriacontapeptide sequence I, and of the synthesis of the fragment 1–10, which was obtained pure in a yield of 65% after counter-current distribution.
Abstract: A detailed account is given of the total synthesis of human calcitonin M, the hypocalcaemic hormone possessing the dotriacontapeptide sequence I. In the build up of I, the protected sequences 1–10 and 11–32 served as intermediates for the preparation of the protected precursor dotriacontapeptide 1–32 (II). While the synthesis of the fragment 1–10 has been reported previously [1], the present account includes a detailed description of the build up of the intermediate 11–32. Racemisation encountered in the synthesis of this fragment is discussed and conditions indicated in which it is minimized. From the final coupling step using dicyclohexylcarbodiimide-N-hydroxysuccinimide [3], the protected dotriacontapeptide II was obtained pure in a yield of 65% after counter-current distribution. In the removal by acidolysis of the protecting groups from II even under optimal conditions two side reactions occur: alkylation of the 8-methionine side chain and N to O acyl migration at the serine or threonine residues. By-products from these reactions were removed by counter-current distribution giving very pure I free of diastereoisomers and possessing the biological activity of highly purified natural calcitonin M. In the routine assay [4] after repeated testing its activity was evaluated at 100 ± 5 U/mg (calculated on content of free peptide).

TL;DR: In this article, the authors discuss diamino-s-triazines which are useful in polymer synthesis, such as polyimides, and dinitro-striazines, which can be used as intermediates for the diamino compounds.
Abstract: The disclosure covers diamino-s-triazines which are useful in polymer synthesis, such as polyimides. Also covered are dinitro-s-triazines which can be used as intermediates for the diamino compounds. The diamines are prepared by a condensation of 2-substituted-4,6-dichlorotriazines with diamines or with nitroamines. The product from the latter reaction can be reduced subsequently to diamines.

TL;DR: In this article, the problem of adjusting the color composition of a printing light is addressed by measuring the color densities of the negative and the positive before and after the printing light's transmission through the negative.
Abstract: AN APPARATUS FOR MAKING PRINTS FROM COLOUR NEGATIVES HAS ADJUSTABLE FILTERS FOR CONTROLLING THE COLOUR COMPOSITION OF THE PRINTING LIGHT WHICH ILLUMINATES THE NEGATIVE BEING PRINTED. THE REQUIRED COLOUR COMPOSITION IS DEPENDENT ON THE COLOUR DENSITIES OF THE NEGATIVE. TO MEASSURE THE COLOR DENSITIES THE PRINTING LIGHT IS SAMPLED BOTH BEFORE AND AFTER TRANSMISSION THROUGH THE NEGATIVE AND THE SAMPLES ANALYZED IN RESPECT TO THEIR PRIMARY COLOUR COMPONENTS. THE CORRESPONDING COMPONENTS OF THE LIGHT SAMPLES BEFORE AND AFTER THE NEGATIVE ARE COMPARED TO OBTAIN DIFFERENT SIGNALS REPRESENTING THE COLOUR DENSITIES OF THE NEGATIVE. THESE SIGNALS ARE USED IN TURN TO AUTOMATICALLY ADJUST THE FILTERS FOR THE CORRECT COLOUR COMPOSITION OF THE PRINTING LIGHT. A SHUTTER IS LOCATED BETWEEN THE NEGATIVE AND THE PRINTING MATERIAL AND IS OPENED TO EXPOSE THE LATTER ONCE THE PRINTING LIGHT HAS BEEN ADJUSTED. THE LIGHT SAMPLES ARE ALSO USED TO DERIVE BRIGHTNESS SIGNALS FOR CONTROLLING THE TIME FOR WHICH THE SHUTTER IS OPENED.

Abstract: A multifocal or bifocal contact lens is made on a convention radius turning lathe has two supports, one for the work or lens blank and the other for the tool. The tool is rotated about an axis fixed on its support so that the point of the tool describes a circle. The blank is held fixed on its support. Upon relative angular movement of the supports, a spherical segment is cut in the blank, with the center of curvature falling along the axis of rotation of the tool whereby monocentricity is achieved. By such grinding technique, a segment for near view may be formed having a desirable configuration in which nasal rotation of the lens is noncritical.
