TL;DR: Four generations of a short statured family in whom 12 members have osteochondritis dissecans affecting the knees, elbow, or both, and other minor anomalies of bony development are recorded, four of the family exhibit idiopathic scoliosis.
Abstract: We review four generations of a short statured family in whom 12 members have osteochondritis dissecans (OD) affecting the knees, elbow, or both, and other minor anomalies of bony development are recorded Four of the family, unaffected by OD, exhibit idiopathic scoliosis

TL;DR: The ranges of spinal and pelvic movements in a group of twenty-two normal males have been measured and the relative movements of the lumbar spine and pelvis can be calculated.
Abstract: A non-invasive method of measuring pelvic and lumbar spinal movement during walking has been developed. Targets attached to the subject reflect light from stroboscopic lamps mounted near to each of three television cameras which are interfaced to a computer. The targets' locations are identified by the interface and stored as coordinate pairs. From the two-dimensional data from two cameras, three-dimensional data are derived and the relative movements of the lumbar spine and pelvis can be calculated. The ranges of spinal and pelvic movements in a group of twenty-two normal males have been measured. The mean values of spinal motion were 5.1° in the sagittal plane, 9.3° in the coronal plane and 8.3° axial rotation. The corresponding pelvic movements were 4.0° in the sagittal plane, 7.7° in the coronal plane and 11.2° axial rotation. The system is useful to document abnormalities and to record the effects of treatment.

TL;DR: The data do not confirm that human cartilage is most sensitive to somatomedins during intrauterine life, but could be an important feature in the pattern of skeletal growth of the human fetus during gestation.
Abstract: The response of human fetal costal cartilage (gestational age 12–25 weeks) to plasma containing somatomedin activity has been examined in vitro. Uptake of both3H-thymidine and35S-sulfate into the cartilage was increased; the increase in35S-sulfate uptake was relatively constant (mean=198% of basal,N=25) throughout the period studied; however, the increase in3H-thymidine uptake varied with gestational age, reaching a maximum of about 200% at 15–17 weeks and decreasing thereafter. Such a change in cartilage sensitivity to somatomedins could be an important feature in the pattern of skeletal growth of the human fetus during gestation. The data do not confirm that human cartilage is most sensitive to somatomedins during intrauterine life.

TL;DR: It is suggested that infection by staphylococcus aureus could lead to a sudden surge in prostaglandin production and so bone destruction, facilitating the formation of an osteomyelitic focus.

TL;DR: Culture of the necrotic tissues removed at surgery revealed nine bacterial species; subsequent barium enema has shown the presence of severe diverticular disease of the sigmoid colon with stricture formation.
Abstract: the necrotic abdominal wall was performed leaving a soft tissue defect measuring 19 x 8 inches (48.3 x 20.3 em). A defunctioning transverse colostomy was fashioned in the left upper quadrant of the abdomen and the raw area packed with gauze. She made a rapid recovery and after two weeks the abdominal wall defect was covered with split skin. At follow up she is well but is left with a large incisional hernia of the lower abdomen. Culture of the necrotic tissues removed at surgery revealed nine bacterial species; subsequent barium enema has shown the presence of severe diverticular disease of the sigmoid colon with stricture formation.
