01 Jan 2019TL;DR: Significantly better outcomes are achievable when utilizing sacral DRGS and properly executed lead placement technique in patients who suffer from focal neuropathic pain in the feet and/or ankles without diffuse pain within the lumbar spine and/ or lower extremities.
Abstract: Sacral dorsal root ganglion stimulation (DRGS) is a valuable tool used in the treatment of chronic neuropathic pain, chronic regional pain syndrome (CRPS) Types I and Type II in the foot and/or ankle. Although both spinal stimulation and DRGS apply energy to disrupt pain signals, DRGS is able to more specifically target areas of focal neuropathic pain. The specialized lead placement developed ensures reproducible results and stability in amount of pain relief provided. Significantly better outcomes are achievable when utilizing sacral DRGS and properly executed lead placement technique in patients who suffer from focal neuropathic pain in the feet and/or ankles without diffuse pain within the lumbar spine and/or lower extremities.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of palbociclib (a CDK4/6 inhibitor) on inflammation in a lupus-prone MRL-lpr mouse model were explored.
Abstract: Lupus is an autoimmune inflammatory disease that affects multiple organs. Cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs) have been associated with inflammation. The objective of this study was to explore the effects of palbociclib (a CDK4/6 inhibitor) on inflammation in a lupus-prone MRL-lpr mouse model. Twenty mice (10 females and 10 males) were randomized into control group (n=10, treated with vehicle) and treatment group (n=10, treated with 3 cycles of palbociclib at a dose of 120 mg/kg/day for 2 weeks on and 10 weeks off, through oral gavage). Animals were euthanized after the third cycle of treatment. We found that facial skin lesions developed later and smaller in the female mice treated with palbociclib than the female mice in the control group. The lymph node number was less and the lymph node weight was lighter in the female treatment group compared to the female control group. The inflammatory lesions in the kidneys of male mice treated with palbociclib were significantly reduced compared to the male mice in the control group. Our findings suggest that palbociclib treatment reduces inflammation in lupus-prone mice in a gender-specific manner, targeting the facial skin and lymph nodes in the female mice and the kidneys in the male mice.

TL;DR: The normal structure and function of the RV is reviewed, the pathophysiology of RV failure (RVF) is described, and the medical and surgical management of the various disease processes during which RVF occurs is detailed.
Abstract: When addressing heart failure, most commonly, the left ventricle (LV) is the topic of discussion, and the right heart overlooked. However, the right ventricle (RV) is unique in structure and function and is affected by a set of disease processes that rival that of the LV. This article will review the normal structure and function of the RV, describe the pathophysiology of RV failure (RVF), and detail the medical and surgical management of the various disease processes during which RVF occurs.
