Abstract: This paper presents a critical analysis of various topologies for power circuits used in power line conditioners designed to attenuate or remove disturbances in the electric power system. By defining a series of merit figures, it becomes possible to appraise the desirable qualities shown by the technical and economical aspects in each configuration. There is also a description of the basic lines for designing practical equipment. Finally, experimental results of a novel topology which reconfigures to UPS operation in the case of a power line failure are shown to confirm the validity of the prospective method.

Abstract: The common perception of recruitment advertising is of the "want ads" in the local or national newspapers. Despite the lack of academic interest, in some cases, recruitment advertising has adopted the color, imagination, and creativity of consumer advertising. Some recruiters have recognized the marketing benefits of job ads and the need for a corporate communications policy covering all company communications. This paper examines the limited literature on recruitment advertising. The authors compile a list of characteristics of marketing-oriented recruitment advertisements and apply these to their exploratory analysis of the recruitment section of one popular Sunday newspaper in the United Kingdom.

Abstract: Two robust spatial-domain watermarking algorithms for image copyright protection are described in this paper. The first one is robust against compression, filtering and cropping. Like all published crop-proof algorithms, the one proposed here requires the original image for mark recovery. Robustness against compression and filtering is obtained by using the JPEG algorithm to decide on mark location and magnitude; robustness against cropping is achieved through a repetition code. The second watermarking algorithm uses visual components and is robust against compression, filtering, scaling and moderate rotations.

Abstract: "Virtuality" is initiating a change in organizations. It is necessary for companies to be managed flexibly and to respond to the changing needs of the environment. Some new concepts of understanding the organization, accompanied by current technological developments, may offer some opportunities and solutions to the various strategies. How does this new concept of organization with no presence, no physical attendance, and no material factors affect existing companies? This paper deals with questions such as: What is virtuality for companies? How does one manage a virtual company? What elements of virtuality need to be considered by traditional companies entering the new millennium? These questions will be reflected upon and analyzed from a theoretical framework. The framework will provide the basis for the design of an empirical study. The results of the study contribute to and give feedback on these initial questions.

Abstract: Despite its potential, the World Wide Web is not yet a real or viable alternative for marketing channels in Spain. This research attempts to identify and evaluate the factors that contribute and facilitate the development of the Web as an environment for commercial activities in the food and beverage sector in Spain. Spanish consumers have traditionally shown little interest in all forms of distance buying and direct marketing. A range of factors may facilitate this development such as continuous growth in access to the Internet, continued evolution of computer technology, reductions in Internet connection tariffs, and communication speed. Consumers' income, the availability of information online, and the online consumption experience may also act as an impulse for commercial developments on the Web.

Para ello se han desarrollado un sistema util tanto para la digitalizacion como para el tratamientos de los clippings indizacion, tratamiento, almacenamiento y recuperacion asi como el enlace con otras bases de datos de clippings.

Abstract: The Maximum Capture problem (MAXCAP) is a decision model that addresses the issue of location in a competitive environment. This paper presents a new approach to determine which store?s attributes (other than distance) should be included in the new Market Capture Models and how they ought to be reflected using the Multiplicative Competitive Interaction model. The methodology involves the design and development of a survey; and the application of factor analysis and ordinary least squares. The methodology has been applied to the supermarket sector in two different scenarios: Milton Keynes (Great Britain) and Barcelona (Spain).

Abstract: This work presents the initial results of the ALF (Adaptive Learning Framework) project, a development framework to facilitate the auditing, management and maintenance of interactive and multimedia didactic materials that can be adapted to suit the user”s requirements. ALF aims to build software components that are reusable in educational environments, providing for: a parameterizable system (writing of contents, definition of pedagogical strategies and management and subsequent maintenance), a personalized display of educational modules (adaptation of contents to the student”s needs) and the automatic formulation and solution of exercises. The first prototype built with ALF is described, which is an interactive exercise for teaching mathematics.

Abstract: Resumen. En septiembre de 1999 se iniciaba el primer cuatrimestre del Graduado Multimedia a Distancia, titulacion impartida conjuntamente por la Fundacion Politecnica de Cataluna y la Universitat Oberta de Catalunya. Con este motivo, los servicios de bibliotecas de ambas universidades elaboraron un proyecto de biblioteca virtual que pudiera dar apoyo a los estudiantes a lo largo de los estudios facilitandoles el acceso a toda una serie de recursos electronicos y a la documentacion recomendada por los profesores, asi como a un paquete de servicios dirigidos a cubrir las necesidades que pudieran tener para acceder a los documentos. La coordinacion de los dos servicios de bibliotecas ha permitido elaborar un proyecto conjunto, a pesar de los diferentes modelos de biblioteca que hay en cada una de las universidades.
