TL;DR: In this article, an analysis on local participatory experiences in Catalonia, both online and in-person, is presented, taking into account political variables and also classical socio-economic variables that characterize municipalities.
Abstract: This article presents an analysis on local participatory experiences in Catalonia, both online and in-person. The analysis is based on a database set up by the authors. The article carries out an explanatory analysis of local participatory initiatives (on- and offline) taking into account political variables (not usually considered in this kind of analysis) and also classical socio-economic variables that characterize municipalities. Hence, we add a quantitative analysis to the numerous case studies on local e-participation experiences. We have chosen Catalonia because it is one of the European regions with more initiatives and a considerable local government support for citizen participation initiatives since the 1980s. The article offers a characterization of these experiences and an explanatory analysis, considering: (i) the institutional context in which these experiences are embedded, (ii) the citizen participation processes and mechanisms online and (iii) a set of explanatory variables composed of t...

TL;DR: The article proposes using the Critical Incident Technique to perform a qualitative analysis, which contributes to identify the main dimensions and categories that contribute to students’ perception of service quality.
Abstract: This article discusses the importance of measuring how students perceive quality of service in online higher education The article also reviews the existing literature on measuring users’ perceptions about quality in e-services Even when there are a lot of articles on this matter, none of them focuses on e-learning services, so this paper tries to fill that gap The article proposes using the Critical Incident Technique to perform a qualitative analysis, which contributes to identify the main dimensions and categories that contribute to students’ perception of service quality A case study, regarding a completely online university, is presented and the proposed model is used to obtain some preliminary research results Among these, key quality dimensions from a student point of view are identified Some of these dimensions are: learning process, administrative processes, teaching materials and resources, etc After discussing the research results, a list of recommendations for university managers is formulated We believe that both the proposed methodology and the case-study recommendations can be of potential interest for managers of several universities offering online higher-education worldwide

TL;DR: This article studied the phenomenon of linguistic mudes or transformations in linguistic practices, in the case of highly proficient speakers of Irish, Basque and Catalan and investigated the extent to which speakers in the three contexts share ideologies and experiences related to the process.
Abstract: In this paper, we study the phenomenon of linguistic mudes or transformations in linguistic practices, in the case of highly proficient speakers of Irish, Basque and Catalan and we investigate the extent to which speakers in the three contexts share ideologies and experiences related to the process. Such an investigation will deepen understanding of the triggers behind the mudes and what it means to successfully become a new speaker of Irish, Basque or Catalan. This is necessary in order to develop a better understanding of how new speakers respond to the linguistic repertoires that they encounter in the various social milieus in which they navigate. The study relates to broader questions of policy towards the three languages in question: as all are operating within a revitalisation framework it is essential to understand the experiences of new speakers who have adopted the languages in order to guide future policy development.
