12 Apr 2001TL;DR: In this paper, a method for enhancing spectral content of a signal having an incomplete spectrum including a first spectral band is described, which is characterised in that the spectral content is subjected to a whitening step.
Abstract: The invention concerns a method for spectral enhancement and a device therefor. The inventive method is a method for enhancing spectral content of a signal having an incomplete spectrum including a first spectral band, the method including the following steps: at least transposing the spectral content of the first band into a second spectral band not included in the spectrum to generate a transposed spectrum signal, with spectrum limited to the second spectral band; transforming the spectrum of the transposed spectrum signal to obtain an enhancing signal; combining the incomplete spectrum signal and the enhancing signal to produce a spectrum enhanced signal. The invention is characterised in that the spectral content is subjected to a whitening step.

TL;DR: A method based on fingerprints to associate, and further retrieve, a committed value which can be used as a secret for security applications, which uses a stable and ordered representation of biometric data, which makes it of practical use.
Abstract: Recent techniques based on error-correction enable the derivation of a secret key for the (varying) measured biometric data. Such techniques are opening the way towards broader uses of biometrics for security, beyond identification. In this paper, we propose a method based on fingerprints to associate, and further retrieve, a committed value which can be used as a secret for security applications. Unlike previous work, this method uses a stable and ordered representation of biometric data, which makes it of practical use.

TL;DR: In this paper, a novel and very simple approach for distributed feedback laser-electroabsorption modulator monolithic integration is demonstrated, which uses the same strained multiquantum well active layer for both optical functions.
Abstract: A novel and very simple approach is demonstrated for distributed feedback laser-electroabsorption modulator monolithic integration. This uses the same strained multiquantum well active layer for both optical functions. Very high performance (13.6 dB extinction ratio at 1.5 V operating voltage for a 70 mu m long modulator) is reported at 1.5 mu m.

TL;DR: A genetic algorithm for QoS-aware offline inter-domain traffic engineering is first presented, and it is shown through simulation studies how this can optimise the apportionment of QoS provisioning between adjacent domains.

TL;DR: The ‘ALARM’ research group has been running two years as a multidlabs group within the French National Program on Artificial Intelligence PRCdIA to analyze and define the potential benefits of AI techniques in this field.
Abstract: The ‘ALARM’ research group has been running two years as a multidlabs group within the French National Program on Artificial Intelligence PRCdIA The group’s objective was to bring together representatives of the academic and industrial worlds in order to analyze, on real applications, the various problems raised by alarm interpretation and to define the potential benefits of AI techniques in this field This paper presents the conclusions stemming from the analysis and discussions which took place during this period It describes the industrial applications which the members of the group dealt with and compares them in a table with respect to several criteria identified as the most significant
