TL;DR: Experimental results show that the proposed compression approach improves the compression efficiency when compared to the traditional MPEG-4/AVC compression method for II.
Abstract: Integral imaging is an attractive auto-stereoscopic three dimensional (3D) technique for next generation 3DTV. To improve its video quality, new techniques are required to effectively compress the huge volume of integral image (II) data. In this paper, a new compression method implemented by multi-view video coding (MVC) is provided and used for sub-images (SI). SI is an alternative form of 2D image transformed from original II. Each SI represents the 3D scene from parallel viewing directions and contains superior compression capabilities than original captured elemental images (EI). For this reason, we consider arranging the group of SIs as the format of multi-view video (MVV) and then encode the generated MVV by MVC standard. Experimental results show that our proposed compression approach improves the compression efficiency when compared to the traditional MPEG-4/AVC compression method for II.

TL;DR: In this paper, a photo-refractive crystal is placed in the cavity of an interferometer system having a transmittivity-optical path length characteristic of steep slope so as to give rise to a dynamic range of maximum transmittivities variation for minimum variation in the refractive index or optical path length.
Abstract: The invention relates to a spatial light modulator device comprising a photo-refractive crystal addressed by means of a write light beam and a read light beam. The crystal is placed in the cavity of an interferometer system having a transmittivity-optical path length characteristic of steep slope so as to give rise to a dynamic range of maximum transmittivity variation for minimum variation in the refractive index or optical path length of the photo-refractive crystal. The device is applicable to conoscopic holography systems of large dynamic range and to pattern recognition in real time.

TL;DR: It is shown that a voting system that wants to publish the final list of the voters who actually voted, and to compute the number of times each candidate has been chosen, cannot achieve universal verifiability of the tally (UV) and unconditional privacy of the votes (UP) simultaneously.
Abstract: In this paper, we study the problem of simultaneously achieving several security properties, for voting schemes, without non-standard assumptions. More specifically, we focus on the universal verifiability of the computation of the tally, on the unconditional privacy/anonymity of the votes, and on the receipt-freeness properties, for the most classical election processes. Under usual assumptions and efficiency requirements, we show that a voting system that wants to publish the final list of the voters who actually voted, and to compute the number of times each candidate has been chosen, we cannot achieve: universal verifiability of the tally (UV) and unconditional privacy of the votes (UP) simultaneously, unless all the registered voters actually vote; universal verifiability of the tally (UV) and receipt- freeness (RF), unless private channels are available between the voters and/or the voting authorities.

TL;DR: A review of the main results concerning ion implantation of rare-earth elements is given in this paper, where the authors optimize the implantation (energy, dose) and annealing (temperature, duration) conditions.
Abstract: A review of the main results concerning the ion implantation of the rare-earth elements is given. To obtain the best optical activation of rare-earths, we attempt to optimize the implantation (energy, dose) and annealing (temperature, duration) conditions. The studied materials are Si, II-VI binaries (ZnTe, CdS), III-V binaries (GaAs, InP), III-V ternaries (GaAlAs, GalnAs) and III-V quaternaries (GaInAsP).

TL;DR: The general public daily exposure to broadcast signals and Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) or Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) mobile telephone signals in indoor areas is investigated and a realistic maximum is proposed based on the statistical analysis performed using measurements.
Abstract: In this article, the general public daily exposure to broadcast signals and Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) or Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) mobile telephone signals in indoor areas is investigated. Temporal variations and traffic distributions during a day at different indoor sites in urban and rural zones are presented. The goal is to analyze the real exposure compared to the maximum assessment imposed by radio protection standards and to characterize the ratio between daily and maximum theoretical values. Hence, a realistic maximum is proposed based on the statistical analysis performed using measurements. Broadcast signals remain constant over the day so they are best fitted with a Normal distribution while the mobile telephone signals depend on the traffic demand during the day so they fit a three-Gaussian distribution model. A general mask is also constructed for underlining the maximum equivalent active traffic for different periods in the day. Also, relations between the mean values over 24 h, the realistic maximal values (at 99%) and the maximal theoretical values are presented. The realistic maximum is also presented with a sliding time average of 6 min applied to the measurements in accordance with international standards. An extrapolation factor is given for the different systems to easily assess the maximum values starting from an instantaneous measurement. The extrapolation factor is also given for a broadband measurement to estimate the maximum potential exposure during the day. Bioelectromagnetics 33:288–297, 2012. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
