TL;DR: It is suggested that some stocks of SC5314 are unstable and that BWP17 may not be appropriate for general studies, and that for general research CAF4‐2, which is a relatively stable Ura− derivative, and which has been successfully used for more than a decade in the authors' laboratory.
Abstract: Electrophoretic karyotyping of the Candida albicans revealed a different migration pattern of ChR in three different stocks of the sequencing strain SC5314. In one stock, the high instability of ChR size prevented the migration of ChR as a compact band; ChR appeared, instead, as a smear. In some stocks, ChR and/or Ch1 ploidy diminished, suggesting mixed populations of disomic and monosomic cells. Similarly, some stocks of widely used derivatives CAI4 and BWP17 contained smearing of ChR. In addition, the most manipulated strain in the lineage of SC5314, the last derivative, BWP17, acquired an increase in the size of Ch7b and revealed an unusual property. BWP17 did not tolerate a well-established procedure of telomere-mediated fragmentation of a chromosome; the remaining intact homologue always duplicated. We suggest that some stocks of SC5314 are unstable and that BWP17 may not be appropriate for general studies. Instead of BWP17 or CAI4, we recommend using for general research CAF4-2, which is a relatively stable Ura- derivative, and which has been successfully used for more than a decade in our laboratory.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present the results of an experimental investigation carried out to control the base pressure in a suddenly expanded axi-symmetric passage, where four micro-jets of 1 mm orifice diameter located at 90° interval along a pitch circle diameter of 1.3 times the nozzle exit diameter were employed as active controls.
Abstract: Purpose – This paper aims to present the results of an experimental investigation carried out to control the base pressure in a suddenly expanded axi‐symmetric passage.Design/methodology/approach – Four micro‐jets of 1 mm orifice diameter located at 90° interval along a pitch circle diameter of 1.3 times the nozzle exit diameter in the base region was employed as active controls. The test Mach numbers were 1.25, 1.3, 1.48, 1.6, 1.8, 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0. The jets were expanded suddenly into an axi‐symmetric tube with cross‐sectional area 4.84 times that of nozzle exit area. The length‐to‐diameter ratio of the sudden expansion tube was varied from 10 to 1. Nozzles generating the above jet Mach numbers were operated with nozzle pressure ratio in the range 3‐11. As high as 40 per cent increase in base pressure was achieved. In addition to base pressure, the wall pressure in the duct was also measured.Findings – It is found that the wall pressure is not adversely influenced by the micro jets.Originality/value – T...

TL;DR: The effects of sun drying at ambient temperature in the range of 24°C to 32°C; artificial drying at 35°C, 45°C and 55°C for 16 hours on the physical characteristics of the final dried Bombay duck (Harpodon neherius) were studied.
Abstract: The effects of sun drying at ambient temperature in the range of 24°C to 32°C; artificial drying at 35°C, 45°C, or 55°C; or artificial drying at 45°C after treatment with 10% brine, 20% brine, saturated (36%) brine, or dry salt at 28°C for 16 hours on the physical characteristics of the final dried Bombay duck (Harpodon neherius) were studied. Unsalted sundried fish was found unacceptable. Dry salting was more efficient in reducing the moisture level in fish than brining, but was found unsuitable by the panelists due the appearance of a powdered salt crust as the fish dries up. Bombay duck treated with 20% sodium chloride solution, artificially dried at 45°C, and kept in sealed polyethylene pouches was judged superior after sensory evaluation compared to unsalted sundried Bombay duck or unsalted artificial dried Bombay duck at 35°C, 45°C, and 55°C, or artificial dried samples at 45°C after treatment with 10% brine, saturated (36%) brine or dry salt, and kept in sealed polyethylene pouches, respec...

TL;DR: C4H6N3+·C6H2N3O7− is a compound whose geometric parameters are in the usual ranges as discussed by the authors. But it is not known whether it can be used as a compound.
Abstract: The geometric parameters of the title compound, C4H6N3+·C6H2N3O7−, are in the usual ranges. While two nitro groups are almost coplanar with the aromatic picrate ring [dihedral angles 3.0 (2) and 4.4 (3)°], the third is significantly twisted out of this plane [dihedral angle 46.47 (8)°]. Anions and cations are connected via N—H⋯O hydrogen bonds. The molecules crystallize in planes parallel to (1\overline{2}1).

TL;DR: A simple, selective and sensitive spectrophotometric method is proposed for the determination of widely used organochlorine pesticide endosulfan using thionin and methylene blue as chromogenic reagents.
Abstract: A simple, selective and sensitive spectrophotometric method is proposed for the determination of widely used organochlorine pesticide endosulfan using thionin and methylene blue as chromogenic reagents. The method is based on the liberation of sulfur dioxide from endosulfan by adding acid reagent and alcoholic potassium hydroxide. The liberated sulfur dioxide is passed through potassium iodate solution and the iodine so liberated bleaches the violet color of thionin and blue color of methylene blue and is measured at 600 nm and 665 nm respectively. This decrease in absorbance is directly proportional to the endosulfan concentration. The Beer’s law is obeyed in the range of 0.4–7.0 and 0.2–9.0 μg mL−1 of endosulfan using thionin and methylene blue as reagents respectively. The molar absorptivity and Sandell’s sensitivity were found to be 1.05 × 105 and 5.03 × 104 L mol−1 cm−1, 3.85 × 10−3 and 8.10 × 10−3 μg cm−2 of endosulfan using thionin and methylene blue as reagents respectively. The method has been applied for the determination of endosulfan in water, soil and vegetables.

Abstract: The geometric parameters of the title compound, C8H6N2O·C6H3N3O7, are in the usual ranges. The three nitro groups are almost coplanar with the aromatic picrate ring [dihedral angles 10.2 (2)°, 7.62 (16) and 8.08 (17)°]. The molecular conformation of the picric acid is stabilized by an intramolecular O—H⋯O hydrogen bond. The phthalazin-1(2H)-one molecules are connected via N—H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming centrosymmetric dimers.

TL;DR: The title compound, C18H20N2O3, crystallizes as the keto tautomer, unlike the vast majority of similar structures that have been reported that contain the hydroxy tautomers, which may suggest the molecule has a significant zwitterionic character.
Abstract: The title compound, C18H20N2O3, crystallizes as the keto tautomer, unlike the vast majority of similar structures that have been reported that contain the hydroxy tautomer There are two strong hydrogen bonds in the crystal structure, both accepted by the same carbonyl group: one intramolecular N—H⋯O and one intermolecular O—H⋯O As a result, the carbonyl C=O distance is long, at 1310 (2) A, which may suggest the molecule has a significant zwitterionic character The dihedral angle between the benzene ring planes is 1505 (7)° As a result of the intramolecular hydrogen bond, the bridging C—C=N—C group is almost coplanar with the benzene ring that has the diethylamino substituent [dihedral angle 235 (15)°]
