TL;DR: An electrophoretic display device as mentioned in this paper is a display device in which a fine-divided powder form suspended in a suspending medium is interposed between a pair of electrodes, at least one of which is transparent.
Abstract: An electrophoretic display device in which an electrophoretic suspension layer including a dispersion of at least one electrophoretic material in a finely divided powder form suspended in a suspending medium is interposed between a pair of electrodes, at least one of which is transparent. A colored layer of a desired pattern is provided at the transparent electrode. An electric field is imposed between the pair of electrodes so as to change the optical property such as reflective color or luminescent color of the suspension layer by changing the spatial distribution of the electrophoretic material in the suspending medium electrophoretically.

TL;DR: In this paper, a D.C. voltage is uniformly applied across an electrophoretic suspension layer including a dispersion of at least one electrogoretic material in a finely divided powder form suspended in a suspending medium.
Abstract: Electrophoretic image reproduction process is disclosed. In this process, a D.C. voltage is uniformly applied across an electrophoretic suspension layer including a dispersion of at least one electrophoretic material in a finely divided powder form suspended in a suspending medium, whereby said D.C. voltage changes the spatial distribution of said electrophoretic material so as to change an optical reflective property of said electrophoretic suspension layer. An electric field in a given image is then applied to said changed suspension layer, whereby said electrophoretic material stricken by said electric field moves electrophoretically and reproduces said given image on said electrophoretic suspension layer.

TL;DR: In this article, various barium orthoferrates over wide Fe 4+ concentrations were prepared and their magnetic properties were investigated, and the triclinic I and rhombohedral phases were shown to have a magnetic structure of one-dimensional antiferromagnet.
Abstract: Various barium orthoferrates over wide Fe 4+ concentrations were prepared and their magnetic properties were investigated. The hexagonal phase with large Fe 4+ concentration is ferromagnetic above the anomaly point. With increasing Fe 3+ , it tends to be antiferromagnetic. The cubictetragonal phases are paramagnetic with positive paramagnetic Curie temperature. In these phases, the Fe 4+ -Fe 4 interaction is ferromagnetic, but the Fe 3+ -Fe 4+ and Fe 3+ -Fe 3+ interactions are antiferromagnetic. Some of the Fe 3+ and Fe 4+ ions in these phases take low spin states due to strong uniaxial crystalline fields caused by neighbouring oxygen vacancies. The triclinic I phase seems to have a magnetic structure of one-dimensional antiferromagnet. The magnetic structures of the triclinic II and rhombohedral phases resemble that of the triclinic I.

TL;DR: In this article, a microwave oven door seal is established when an access opening of a heating cavity is closed by a door, which includes a biplanar transmission line which extends in a first direction from within the heating cavity to a point outside the heating cavities.
Abstract: A microwave oven door seal is established when an access opening of a heating cavity is closed by a door. The seal includes a biplanar transmission line which extends in a first direction from within the heating cavity to a point outside the heating cavity. At such point, the biplanar transmission line turns and extends in a second direction away from the access opening. A first electromagnetic wave filter is fed by the first portion of the biplanar transmission line and a second electromagnetic wave filter is fed by the second portion of the biplanar transmission line for reducing the amount of electromagnetic wave energy which leaks from the heating cavity. The filters are cavities which are located along the biplanar transmission line and are designed to occupy a minimum of space to provide room for an observation window in the door. To improve the effectiveness of the seal on one side of the heating cavity in the event the door is pivotally mounted to an opposite side of the heating cavity the door is mounted so that it extends from the opposite side toward the one side at an obtuse angle relative to a wall at the one side of the heating cavity. As a result, both the width and the length of the first portion of the biplanar transmission line on such one side decrease so that the sealing characteristics thereof remain relatively constant during an initial opening movement of the door.

TL;DR: In this article, the thermoelectric power along the basal plane in a synthetic single crystal graphite exhibits a sharp negative dip at T =35°K and a positive peak centered at 120°K.
Abstract: According to Takezawa et at. , the thermoelectric power \(\mathfrak{S}\) along the basal plane in a synthetic single crystal graphite exhibits a sharp negative dip at T =35°K and a positive peak centered at 120°K. Subtracting the diffusion component \(\mathfrak{S}_{\text{d}}\) by use of an appropriate assumption, they have separated the phonon drag contribution \(\mathfrak{S}_{\text{p}}\) from \(\mathfrak{S}\). To get a theoretical explanation for \(\mathfrak{S}_{\text{p}}\), coupled Boltzmann equations for carriers and phonons are solved on the basis of a simplified ellipsoidal band model. The calculated \(\mathfrak{S}_{\text{p}}\) is proportional to T -3 above the dip temperature T d (35°K) and at T < T d it tends to zero as T 2∼4 with decreasing temperature. These behaviors are in qualitative agreement with the observed result.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors studied the current instability in the sputtered TiO2 thin films of the Au-TiO2-Ti sandwich system under the application of positive bias on Au electrode.
Abstract: The current instability is observed in the sputtered TiO2 thin films of Au-TiO2-Ti sandwich system under the application of positive bias on Au electrode. The process of the present current instability is studied in relation to the hydrogen ion conduction in the TiO2 thin films. As a result, the process is conjectured as follows: 1) dissociation of adsorbed water at Au-TiO2 interface, 2) injection of H+ into TiO2 at the positive bias, 3) migration of H+ through TiO2 under the applied field. Dissociation of water results from a coarse texture of the film surface. From the current response at the recovery of the current instability, the diffusion activation energy of H+ in the TiO2 films is estimated at 0.07 eV which is in good agreement with the value in TiO2 single crystal.
