TL;DR: A rotating electric machine of the multipole type which has a permanent magnet rotor magnetized in such a way that the number of stator salient poles is less than a fixed number of permanent magnet poles is manufactured as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: A rotating electric machine of the multipole type which has a permanent magnet rotor magnetized in such a way that the number of stator salient poles is less than the number of permanent magnet poles. The machine has a smaller cogging force and is easily manufactured. The cogging force is made smaller by shaping both sides of the periphery of each stator salient pole. The ratio of the number of the stator salient poles to the rotor permanent magnet poles is such as to make the rotation of the rotor smooth in spite of variations in the magnetization of the permanent magnet rotor poles.

Abstract: A light modulating device comprising a heterogeneous layer containing an electrokinetically movable liquid material and a solid substance polarizable with respect to the liquid. By establishing an electrical field in the layer the electrokinetically movable liquid is caused to move to vary the transmissivity of the layer to visible light. The electrical field is spatially modulated by electric charges in accordance with an image pattern and the incident light is modulated in exact correspondence with the modulated electrical field. The spatial modulation of the electrical field is effected by the incident ultraviolet light or X-ray radiation or by the impingement of an electron beam in a vacuum chamber.

Abstract: A foldable hair dryer consisting of a hollow nozzle assembly made up of a cylindrical portion and tangentially extending nozzle coaxially fitted into a handle assembly having a cylindrical portion and tangentially extending handle, the two assemblies being generally symmetrical. The thickness of the nozzle, handle and their associated cylindrical portions, measured axially, is approximately the same resulting in a compact, "flat" construction. Within the cylindrical portion of the nozzle assembly is mounted a motor and fan assembly also of "flat" configuration in which the blades of the fan are peripherally disposed about the motor. The nozzle is fitted with a heating element. The nozzle and handle assemblies are coaxially pivoted for movement between an operating condition in which the nozzle and handle are in "L" configuration and a collapsed condition in which the nozzle and handle lie compactly side by side. A switch on the handle is operated by the nozzle incident to the collapsing movement to insure that the motor and heating element are both turned off in the collapsed state.

Abstract: Infrared and Raman measurements of lattice vibrations in Mg x Cd 1- x Te mixed crystals have been made in the concentration range x =0∼0.6. The modified random-element isodisplacement model has been applied to explain the concentration dependence of long wavelength longitudinal and transverse optic phonon frequencies in the mixed crystal system. From fitting the computed values to the experimental data we have estimated the static dielectric constant e 0 , TO and LO phonons of pure MgTe, and a gap made of Cd in MgTe.

Abstract: The preparation and properties of direct current electroluminescent (dc EL) materials using manganese-activated ZnS powders for a flat-panel TV display are described The firing process, the copper coating process, and the ferming process have been investigated Suitable powder phosphors for the display panel contain 01-05 wt % manganese and 025-035 wt % copper coated on the ZnS powder surface Although the powder-type dc EL still has low luminous efficiency, the light output can be increased to a useful level by exciting the panel with voltage pulses of high peak power The crosstalk effect in the display panel can also be suppressed, since the brightness is very nonlinear with respect to the applied voltage The sealing of the panel with silicone oil is effective in lengthening the life of the panel An experimental dc EL panel with a 13-in diagonal and 50 176 picture elements has been fabricated, capable of reproducing broadcast TV images These images have a highlight brightness of 10 fL, a contrast ratio of 20:1, a limiting resolution of about 150 TV lines in both horizontal and vertical directions, and a gray-scale capability of 16 steps
