TL;DR: In this paper, an electric field having a spatial intensity distribution according to an image signal is applied to a liquid crystal at a spatial period, so that a spatially phase-modulated phase diffraction grating is formed in the liquid crystal layer.
Abstract: A liquid crystal light valve projection type image display apparatus comprises an electro-optic element and a Schlieren optical system. The electro-optic element has a liquid crystal layer having a dielectric and optical anisotropy. An electric field having a spatial intensity distribution according to an image signal is applied to said liquid crystal at a spatial period, so that a spatially phase-modulated phase diffraction grating is formed in the liquid crystal layer. Thus, a projected image in enlarged form is obtained. The fact that the electric field with a spatial period is applied to the liquid crystal leads to a constant light diffraction angle, and the modulation of the diffraction light intensity in the applied electric field enables an image corresponding to the input image signal to be projected at high light utilization.

TL;DR: In this paper, the color filter and the chip are covered with protective layers or films so that surface flaws may be avoided and then the chip with the partially-bonded color filter is removed from the bonding device and complete curing of the adhesive is accomplished by heating.
Abstract: In a step for bonding a color filter to a solid-state color-image sensor chip with an adhesive which is curable not only by light or more particularly ultraviolet-ray irradiation but also by heating, pre-curing or partial curing is effected by irradiating light rays after the color filter and the chip has been pressed against each other and correctly aligned with each other in a bonding device and then the chip with the partially-bonded color filter is removed from the bonding device and complete curing of the adhesive is accomplished by heating. According to one embodiment of the present invention the bonding step is carried out in an atmosphere containing the oxygen so that the adhesive which has been squeezed out from the space between the color filter and the chip may be prevented from being cured and subsequently removed in a simple manner. According to a further embodiment of the present invention, prior to the bonding step, the color filter and chip are covered with protective layers or films so that surface flaws may be avoided. Thus, the color filters can be bonded to the chips with a higher degree of accuracy and a higher degree of adhesive strength and the mass production of solid-state color-image sensors can be much facilitated.

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of heat treatment on DLTS and photoluminescence (PL) signals have been investigated, the results indicating that a deep impurity level whose emission activation energy is 0.42 eV is closely related to the well-known PL emission band at 1.1 eV.
Abstract: Deep impurity levels in InP LEC single crystals have been investigated by deep-level transient spectroscopy (DLTS) and photoluminescence (PL) measurements. The effects of heat treatment on DLTS and PL signals have been investigated, the results indicating that a deep impurity level whose emission activation energy is 0.42 eV is closely related to the well-known PL emission band at 1.1 eV. It seems that these DLTS and PL signals originate from a certain complex including P vacancies and defects, since some behaviours of these signals can be well explained by a configuration-coordinate model. Two other deep levels with emission activation energies of 0.31 and 0.60 eV have also been observed. The origin of these deep impurity levels might be due to native defects in the InP LEC crystals.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for manufacturing an ultrafine particle film which has great practical utility when deposited on an appropriate substrate. The particle film is produced from various ultrafine particles of, for example, metals, oxides, nitrides and carbides, and is produced uniformly, effectively and efficiently with a high degree of reproducibility. According to a first method, an atmosphere at a gas of a reduced pressure is formed in a vessel, and a forced flow of the gas is formed unidirectionally from an evaporation source to the substrate, so that the evaporated matters from the evaporation source are forced to move together with the forced flow of the gas, so that ultrafine particles which are formed through interaction between the evaporated matters and the gas deposited on the substrate thereby forming the ultrafine particle film. According to a second method, the evaporation source is disposed within a vessel of having a reduced gas pressure as well as a cylinder surrounded by a high-frequency coil. As the coil is energized, the gas in the cylinder is excited. The evaporated matters are forced to flow through the excited gas atmosphere so that ultrafine particles formed by an interaction between the evaporated matters and the excited gas are deposited on the substrate thereby forming the ultrafine particle layer. A third method is a combination of the first and second methods.

Abstract: In an optical recording disk having groove-like guide tracks, a rotation index mark is provided to indicate a rotation starting point where the rotation index mark is constructed of a grooved-like phase structure. The rotation index mark may be formed in a track which is located separated from the information recording tracks, and may be detected optically without using a laser light beam. The rotation index mark is used to control the rotation of the disk as well as writing and reading operation of an optical disk recording/reproducing apparatus so that various information, such as video signals, can be accurately recorded and reproduced. In the case of recording digital signals, the guide tracks may be divided into a plurality of sector regions, and sector index marks corresponding to respective sector regions may also be formed together with the rotation index mark. Furthermore, an address index mark indicative of the position of track address region radially formed in the guide tracks may also be added.

Abstract: A two speed or multi-speed video tape recorder of the conventional helical scan type in which the audio signal is capable of being recorded as a time compressed signal at one end of each helical video scan, or alternatively, in conventional longitudinal fashion by means of a stationary magnetic head engaging one edge of the tape. At low tape transport speeds, improved bandwidth (and therefore sound fidelity) is obtained by use of the time compression technique; while at higher transport speeds, there are advantages in utilizing the stationary audio head. Circuitry is provided to automatically utilize the time compression technique at lower tape transport speeds and the stationary head longitudinal recording technique at higher tape transport speeds. A pilot or cue signal is recorded on the tape, to automatically control the reproduction circuitry so that both types of recording methods can be interchanged on the same magnetic tape, with the reproducing circuitry switching accordingly between the two modes, as required.
