TL;DR: A finned heat exchanger includes a plurality of elongated fins which are arranged at a predetermined interval in parallel with one another such that air flows between neighboring ones of the fins in a predetermined direction as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: A finned heat exchanger includes a plurality of elongated fins which are arranged at a predetermined interval in parallel with one another such that air flows between neighboring ones of the fins in a predetermined direction. A plurality of heat transfer tubes which contain refrigerant passing therethrough are orthogonally inserted through the fins so as to be arranged in a plurality of columns on the fins. When the finned heat exchanger is operated for condensation, the heat transfer tubes are provided in two paths in the vicinity of an inlet for the refrigerant and are provided in one path in the vicinity of an outlet for the refrigerant, such that the heat transfer tubes of the one path occupy about 5 to 30% of all the heat transfer tubes.

TL;DR: In this article, a tricolor fluorescent lamp operating on a DC power source is described, which comprises an outer envelop defining therein a sealed space in which an ionizable medium is filled at low pressure.
Abstract: A tricolor fluorescent lamp operating on a DC power source is disclosed herein. The lamp comprises an outer envelop defining therein a sealed space in which an ionizable medium is filled at low pressure. Disposed within said outer envelop are three tubular envelops of a generally inverted U-shaped configuration which define correspondingly three separate discharge paths and which are coated with respective fluorescent substances emitting different colors. Three sequentially energized anodes are located within the sealed ends of the respective envelops and a common cathode is disposed in adjacently facing relation with the open ends of the envelops, such that the three envelops can be sequentially energized to emit the specific colors which are additively mixed in various proportions to produce a desired color as emitting from the whole lamp. Said U-shaped configuration of the tubular envelops emitting different colors results in the elongated discharge paths or increased light emitting surfaces within a limited space, providing a compact arrangement of the tricolor lamp to be well suitable for decorative illumination. Also, the bent portions of the U-shaped envelops are cooperative to provide a viewing surface on which all three color emitting sources can appear, which renders the tricolor lamp to be well adaptable for use as a picture element in a color display. Further, the sequential shifting of the discharge paths allows the common cathode to be constantly energized, preventing irregular color reproduction which would otherwise result from the interruption in energizing the cathode during the course of changing the colors to be emitted from the lamp.

Abstract: A tuning system employs a specific resonant circuit which includes two electrodes confronting each other through a dielectric interposed therebetween. Each of the two electrodes has at least one bent portion to present a lumped-constant inductance and has a desired equivalent electrical length. The two electrodes respectively have common terminals located out of mutually confronting positions so that voltage signals induced by mutual inductance between the electrodes will be opposite in phase so as to thereby produce a parasitic distributed-constant capacitance. The two electrodes form a two-terminal circuit network having a first terminal disposed at a desired position on one of the two electrodes and the common terminals as a second terminal. The first terminal of the resonant circuit is connected to a feedback amplifier, an amplifier, or a mixer so as to form a tuning oscillator, a tuning amplifier or a mixer.

Abstract: Metal Evaporated Video Tape (ME Tape) has been developed for highly competitive and innovative mass-produced VTRs. A magnetic recording layer of Co-Ni film of 0.15 μm was prepared by vacuum roll coating technology in an oxygen atmosphere using polyester substrate. The shape of the columnar grains forming the film is influenced by this deposition system which has a continuously varied incidence and deposition rate. The anisotropic columnar structures and properties of the ME Tape were investigated. The magnetic properties of a series of films made by varying the minimum incident angle were investigated and the results of the magnetic anisotropies and different recording characteristics of different tape transport directions are presented here. On the other hand, the still-frame life and the frictional behavior of ME Tape has shown no anisotropies for tape transport.

TL;DR: In this paper, a flexible heating wire is proposed to detect the danger of localized overheating, abnormal overheating or the generation of an arc which is caused when the heating wire was subjected to external oppression, bending, or twisting.
Abstract: A flexible heating wire includes a first conductive body, a second conductive body, a thermally fusible electrically insulative body which are arranged such that the first and second conductive bodies will be brought into electric contact with each other when the thermally fusible electrically insulative body is thermally fused, a third conductive body, and a heating body having a positive temperature coefficient and held in electric contact with at least one of the first and second conductive bodies and the third conductive body. The flexible heating wire is capable of self-controlling the temperature of the heated heating body. The flexible heating wire can detect the danger of localized overheating, abnormal overheating, or the generation of an arc which is caused when the heating wire is subjected to external oppression, bending, or twisting, or when the heating wire is heated by an external source, or when a conductive material has been mixed in the PTC heating body. Through such detection, the flexible heating wire is prevented from being overheated beyond a certain temperature setting. The flexible heating wire will not be heated up to a high temperature after use over a prolonged period of time. Therefore, the flexible heating wire has a sufficient degree of safety.

Abstract: A laser beam in an optical recording and reproducing apparatus is narrowed into a very fine spot beam and is applied to an optical disc so as to induce a thermal change therein, to record or reproduce a signal. A mark (17) provided on an optical disc or a disc jacket is detected in order to judge the recording polarity of the optical disc, and, according to the result of the detection, analog gate switches (23a), (23b) are switched to change the polarity of the recording or reproduction signal to be positive or negative as appropriate. By so doing, it is possible to effect stable recording and reproduction with the same recording and reproducing apparatus, even with optical discs which have different reproduction signal polarities depending on the characteristics of the recording materials employed, such as erasable optical discs and nonerasable optical discs.

TL;DR: In this article, a sputtered composite oxide film of which tantalum and aluminium are its main components is used to improve the operating characteristics of a thin-film integrated device and improve the overall reliability.
Abstract: An insulating substrate of a thin-film integrated device is provided with thin-film elements, such as a thin-film capacitor, a thin-film field-effect transistor and a thin-film electroluminescence element, which each employ an insulating film (3, 7, 13, 15, 16) as one of the constituent elements thereof. The insulating film is constituted by a sputtered composite oxide film of which tantalum and aluminium are its main components. Since a sputtered composite oxide film has the advantage of a large specific inductivity and dielectric breakdown field strength and a small leakage current, its application to these thin-film elements makes it possible to improve the operating characteristics thereof and improve the overall reliability.
