TL;DR: In this article, a surface acoustic wave device mounted module is presented, which includes a multilayer substrate which has at least one layer of a shield pattern, input-output electrodes, grounding electrodes, through holes used for connecting electrodes, and a surface acyclic wave element.
Abstract: This invention provides a surface acoustic wave device mounted module which is miniature, light, and highly reliable. The surface acoustic wave device mounted module also has excellent frequency characteristics. The surface acoustic wave device mounted module includes a multilayer substrate which has at least one layer of a shield pattern, input-output electrodes, grounding electrodes, through holes used for connecting electrodes, and a surface acoustic wave element. The surface acoustic wave element has metallic bumps, which are transfer-coated with a conductive resin, on electrode pads and an insulating resin around the surface acoustic wave element. The electrode pads are input-output terminals and grounding terminals formed on the surface acoustic wave element. Continuities between the input-output terminals and the input-output electrodes, and between the grounding terminals and the grounding electrodes are established by the through holes. An electrode pattern is formed on the surface of the multilayer substrate facing and surrounding the surface acoustic wave element. A metallic lid is attached to the electrode pattern by a solder or a conductive resin so that the surface acoustic wave element is sealed in an airtight condition. The electrode pattern is connected to the grounding electrodes by the through holes.

TL;DR: Experiments of speaker adaptation on the TIMIT database using short calibration speech have shown significant performance improvement over the baseline speaker-independent continuous speech recognition, where the recognition system uses Gaussian mixture density based hidden Markov models of phone units.
Abstract: A new speaker adaptation technique is proposed for improving speaker-independent continuous speech recognition based on a decomposition of spectral variation sources. In this technique, the spectral variations are separated into two categories, one acoustic and the other phone-specific, where each variation source is modeled by a linear transformation system. The technique consists of two sequential steps: first, acoustic normalization is performed, and second, phone model parameters are adapted. Experiments of speaker adaptation on the TIMIT database using short calibration speech (5 s per speaker) have shown significant performance improvement over the baseline speaker-independent continuous speech recognition, where the recognition system uses Gaussian mixture density based hidden Markov models of phone units. For a vocabulary size of 853 and test set perplexity of 104, the recognition word accuracy has been improved from 86.9% for the baseline system to 90.5% after adaptation, corresponding to an error reduction of 27.5%. On a more difficult test set that contains an additional variation source due to recording channel mismatch, a more significant performance improvement has been obtained: for the same vocabulary and a test set perplexity of 101, the recognition word accuracy has been improved from 65.4% for the baseline to 86.0% after adaptation, corresponding to an error reduction of 59.5%. >

Abstract: The voice source for the synthetic speech system is human generated speech waveforms that are inverse filtered to produce glottal waveforms representing larynx sound. These glottal waveforms are modified in pitch and amplitude, as required, to produce the desired sound. The human quality of the synthetically generated voice is further brought out by adding vocal tract effects, as desired. The pitch control is effected in one of two alternate ways, a loop method, or a concatenation method.

TL;DR: This new algorithm identifies islands of reliability (essentially the portion of speech contained between the first and the last vowel) using time and frequency-based features and then applies a noise adaptive procedure to refine the boundaries.
Abstract: The authors address the problem of automatic word boundary detection in quiet and in the presence of noise. Attention has been given to automatic word boundary detection for both additive noise and noise-induced changes in the talker's speech production (Lombard reflex). After a comparison of several automatic word boundary detection algorithms in different noisy-Lombard conditions, they propose a new algorithm that is robust in the presence of noise. This new algorithm identifies islands of reliability (essentially the portion of speech contained between the first and the last vowel) using time and frequency-based features and then, after a noise classification, applies a noise adaptive procedure to refine the boundaries. It is shown that this new algorithm outperforms the commonly used algorithm developed by Lamel (1981) et al. and several other recently developed methods. They evaluated the average recognition error rate due to word boundary detection in an HMM-based recognition system across several signal-to-noise ratios and noise conditions. The recognition error rate decreased to about 20% compared to an average of approximately 50% obtained with a modified version of the Lamel et al. algorithm. >

TL;DR: A connecting member of circuit substrates includes an organic porous base material provided with tack free films on both sides, through-holes disposed at requested places which are filled with conductive resin compound up to the surface of the tackfree films.
Abstract: A connecting member of circuit substrates includes an organic porous base material provided with tackfree films on both sides, through-holes disposed at requested places which are filled with conductive resin compound up to the surface of the tackfree films. This structure enables inner-via-hole connection and can therefore attain a connecting member of circuit substrates and an electrical connector of high reliability and high quality. By using a connecting member of circuit substrates including the organic porous base material provided with tackfree films on both sides and through-holes disposed at requested places which are filled with conductive resin compound up to the surface of the tackfree films, it is possible to form a high-multilayer substrate easily from double sided boards or four-layer substrates which can be manufactured rather stably. In addition to that, since the conductive paste is filled up to the surface of the tackfree films, the conductive paste sticks out from the surface of the organic porous base material when the tackfree films are separated. As a result, the filled amount of the conductive substance increases after the lamination, and thus, the connection resistance is reduced considerably.

TL;DR: In this paper, a compound objective lens is composed of a hologram lens for transmitting a part of incident light without any diffraction to form a beam of transmitted light and diffracting a remaining part of the incident light to form the beam of first-order diffracted light.
Abstract: A compound objective lens is composed of a hologram lens for transmitting a part of incident light without any diffraction to form a beam of transmitted light and diffracting a remaining part of the incident light to form a beam of first-order diffracted light, and an objective lens for converging the transmitted light to form a first converging spot on a front surface of a thin type of first information medium and converging the diffracted light to form a second converging spot on a front surface of a thick type of second information medium. Because the hologram lens selectively functions as a concave lens for the diffracted light, a curvature of the transmitted light differs from that of the diffracted light. Therefore, even though the first and second information mediums have different thicknesses, the transmitted light incident on a rear surface of the first information medium is converged on the its front surface, and the diffracted light incident on a rear surface of the second information medium is converged on the its front surface. That is, the compound objective lens has two focal points.

TL;DR: In this article, a power amplifier amplifies a modulated carrier signal having an amplitude modulation component and a phase modulation component to generate a transmission signal, which is then compared with a burst control signal by a differential amplifier.
Abstract: A power amplifier amplifies a modulated carrier signal having an amplitude modulation component and a phase modulation component to generate a transmission signal. Part of the transmission signal is extracted by a monitor circuit. The detection signal detected by an envelope detector is compared with a burst control signal by a differential amplifier. The resulting error signal is input to a gain control terminal of a power amplifier through a sample and hold circuit, thus forming a feed-back loop. The sample and hold circuit outputs a sample signal during the transmission signal ramping-up and ramping-down periods, thus effectively turning ON the feed-back loop to an ON to control the transmission signal ramping-up and ramping-down. The sample and hold circuit outputs the hold signal during a modulated data transmission period, effectively turning OFF the feedback loop. As a result, a burst transmission output with a stable transmission power level can be obtained.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe a ball-bonding method for forming a bump on the electrode pad of a semiconductor device using the capillary. But the method is not described in detail, only a portion of the bump is formed on the first portion by supplying the metal wire and the rest is formed by the leveling member.
Abstract: The capillary for ball bonding for forming a bump on the electrode pad of a semiconductor device includes a pressing member having a bore therein for supplying a metal wire, and a leveling member. The pressing member presses the ball-like end of the metal wire against the electrode pad in order to secure the ball-like end to the electrode pad under pressure. The leveling member makes the bump formed on the electrode pad to a predetermined height. According to the method of forming a bump using the capillary, first, a ball is formed at the end of the metal wire supplied from the bore. A first portion of the bump is formed by moving the capillary downwards and by securing the ball-like end to the electrode pad under pressure by the pressing member. A second portion of the bump is formed on the first portion by supplying the metal wire while the capillary is moved. When the capillary is moved downwards, a portion of the metal wire constituting the second portion is cut from the remaining portion of the metal wire in the bore by an edge of the pressing member, and simultaneously the bump is leveled by the leveling member.

TL;DR: In this paper, the elasticity of the bump electrodes has been incorporated into the patterning electrodes of a circuit board to prevent deformation due to deformation and the like of semiconductors and circuit boards.
Abstract: The present invention relates to connecting electronic components using bump electrodes to connect electronic components such as semiconductors with the patterning electrodes of a circuit board. In order to prevent deterioration in connecting reliability due to deformation and the like of semiconductors and circuit boards, it is necessary to have some elasticity incorporated within bump electrodes. The bump electrodes disclosed by the present invention have resin bumps with numerous cavities disposed within and covered by a low melting point metal layer. According to this composition, even when there are some variations of distribution in circuit board warp and bump electrode height, it is possible to absorb the variations through the elasticity presented by the bump electrodes. It is also possible to perform a low strain connection with a resultant enhancement in connecting reliability at high temperature.
