TL;DR: An organic electroluminescent device is a device consisting of an organic layer structure provided between a pair of electrodes and capable of emitting light on application of a voltage thereto.
Abstract: An organic electroluminescent device comprises an electroluminescent unit having an organic layer structure provided between a pair of electrodes and capable of emitting light on application of a voltage thereto. The electroluminescent unit is covered with a protective double layer made of an organic barrier layer and an inorganic barrier layer formed on the unit in this order.

TL;DR: A portable media device for use in cooperation with passenger entertainment systems installed in vehicles, such as automobiles and aircraft, and methods for manufacturing and using same are discussed in this article, where the portable device is configured to communicate with one or more content sources, which provide viewing content and which may be proximate to, and/or remote from, the portable media devices.
Abstract: A portable media device for use in cooperation with passenger entertainment systems installed in vehicles, such as automobiles and aircraft, and methods for manufacturing and using same. The portable media device is configured to communicate with one or more content sources, which provide viewing content and which may be proximate to, and/or remote from, the portable media device. Preferably being configured to wirelessly communicate with the content sources, the portable media device can select content from any available content source and can download and present the selected content in any conventional manner. The selected content can be streamed to the portable media device for contemporaneous presentation and/or stored by the portable media device for viewing at any time, including after disembarking the vehicle once travel is completed. As desired, the portable media device likewise can be configured to transmit appropriate upload content to the content sources.

TL;DR: In this paper, a computer-implemented speech parsing method and apparatus for processing an input phrase is presented, which includes providing a plurality of grammars that are indicative of predetermined topics.
Abstract: A computer-implemented speech parsing method and apparatus for processing an input phrase. The method and apparatus include providing a plurality of grammars that are indicative of predetermined topics. A plurality of parse forests are generated using the grammars. Tags are associated with words preferably according to a scoring scheme utilizing the generated parse forests while parsing the input phrase. The tags that are associated with the words are used as a parsed representation of the input phrase.

TL;DR: A generalized proportional fair (GPF) scheduling algorithm is presented, which allows tweaking the trade-off between fairness and throughput performance for best effort traffic in a cellular downlink scenario.
Abstract: In this paper, a generalized proportional fair (GPF) scheduling algorithm is presented, which allows tweaking the trade-off between fairness and throughput performance for best effort traffic in a cellular downlink scenario. The GPF is extended to frequency scheduling in an OFDMA system by performing dynamic channel allocation on a subband basis including link adaptation by adaptive modulation and coding. In this way, multiuser diversity can be utilized in time domain - as for CDMA - and in frequency domain. Compared to a system without frequency scheduling, this increases the system throughput and yields an improved fairness with respect to the allocated resources and with respect to the achieved data-rate per user. OFDMA system level simulations are carried out in order to analyze short/long-term fairness, multiuser diversity gain and system throughput of various GPF configurations with and without applying frequency scheduling.

TL;DR: In this article, a linear regulator is designed to control the operating voltage of the power amplifier with sufficient bandwidth to faithfully reproduce the desired amplitude modulation wave-form, even while the output voltage is changed in response to an applied control signal.
Abstract: The present invention, generally speaking, provides for high-efficiency power control of a high-efficiency (e.g., hard-limiting or switch-mode) power amplifier in such a manner as to achieve a desired modulation. In one embodiment, the spread between a maximum frequency of the desired modulation and the operating frequency of a switch-mode DC-DC converter is reduced by following the switch-mode converter with an active linear regulator. The linear regulator is designed so as to control the operating voltage of the power amplifier with sufficient bandwidth to faithfully reproduce the desired amplitude modulation wave-form. The linear regulator is further designed to reject variations on its input voltage even while the output voltage is changed in response to an applied control signal. This rejection will occur even though the variations on the input voltage are of commensurate or even lower frequency than that of the controlled output variation. Amplitude modulation may be achieved by directly or effectively varying the operating voltage on the power amplifier while simultaneously achieving high efficiency in the conversion of primary DC power to the amplitude modulated output signal. High efficiency is enhanced by allowing the switch-mode DC-to-DC converter to also vary its output voltage such that the voltage drop across the linear regulator is kept at a low and relatively constant level. Time-division multiple access (TDMA) bursting capability may be combined with efficient amplitude modulation, with control of these functions being combined. In addition, the variation of average output power level in accordance with commands from a communications system may also be combined within the same structure.
