TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of conduction band offset of window/CIGS layers on performance of CIGS solar cells was investigated and it was shown that good performance can be obtained when the conduction bands of window layer positions higher by 0.4 to 0.5 eV than that of CIC.

TL;DR: In this article, a 6.6-kV battery energy storage system based on a cascade PWM converter with focus on a control method for state-of-charge (SOC) balancing of the battery units is described.
Abstract: Renewable energy sources such as wind turbine generators and photovoltaics produce fluctuating electric power. The fluctuating power can be compensated by installing an energy storage system in the vicinity of these sources. This paper describes a 6.6-kV battery energy storage system based on a cascade pulsewidth-modulation (PWM) converter with focus on a control method for state-of-charge (SOC) balancing of the battery units. A 200-V, 10-kW, 3.6-kWh (13-MJ) laboratory system combining a cascade PWM converter with nine nickel metal hydride (NiMH) battery units is designed, constructed, and tested to verify the validity and effectiveness of the proposed balancing control.

TL;DR: In this article, the electronic properties of the wurtzite-type AlN and GaN were analyzed on the basis of the effective-mass Hamiltonian, where the hexagonal symmetry was considered.
Abstract: The electronic band structures of the wurtzite-type AlN and GaN are calculated by using a self-consistent full-potential linearized augmented plane-wave method within the local-density-functional approximation. In order to clarify the electronic properties near the Brillouin-zone (BZ) center and to give an important guideline on the material designs for short-wavelength optical devices, we link the first-principles band calculations with the effective-mass approximation. The electronic properties are analytically studied on the basis of the effective-mass Hamiltonian, where we consider the hexagonal symmetry of the wurtzite structure. The effective-mass parameters, such as electron effective mass, hole effective masses, or, equivalently, the Luttinger-like parameters, crystal-field splitting and spin-orbit splitting, are determined by reproducing the calculated band structures near the BZ center. The obtained results show that the cubic approximation is fairly successful in the analysis for the valence-band structures of the wurtzite-type nitrides. Further, the calculated parameters for GaN are consistent with the observed ones.

TL;DR: The extended TAM model is successfully extended in the context of mobile commerce by incorporating one trust‐based construct (trust), one behavioural control construct (perceived financial cost) and one subjective norm construct (SI) to provide a greater understanding of user acceptance of mobile Commerce in Malaysia.
Abstract: – This study aims to empirically examine the factors that affect the consumer intention to use (IU) mobile commerce (m‐commerce) in Malaysia. The five factors examined in this study are perceived usefulness (PU), perceived ease‐of‐use (PEOU), social influence (SI), perceived cost and trust., – The study sample consists of 222 respondents with a response rate of 84.09 per cent. Data were analyzed by employing correlation and multiple regression analysis., – The findings revealed that PU, SI, perceived financial cost and trust are positively associated with consumer IU m‐commerce in Malaysia. In addition, PEOU and trust were found to have an insignificant effect on consumer IU m‐commerce in Malaysia., – The generalizability of the findings is limited as the study focuses only on Malaysia., – Based on the findings, companies involved in m‐commerce should focus on improving the usefulness of the system, trust (i.e. security and privacy protection) and reducing the cost of m‐commerce services to improve the adoption of m‐commerce., – The findings made a contribution in terms of allowing us to understand the factors that can contribute to the adoption of mobile commerce. This study successfully extend the TAM model in the context of mobile commerce by incorporating one trust‐based construct (trust), one behavioural control construct (perceived financial cost) and one subjective norm construct (SI). This extended TAM model provides a greater understanding of user acceptance of mobile commerce in Malaysia.

TL;DR: The authors found that half of the respondents were told that the speaker was from Detroit, whereas half were from Canada, and respondents given the Canadian label chose raised-diphthong tokens as those present in the dialect of the speaker, whereas those given the Michigan label did not.
Abstract: Forty-one Detroit-area residents were given perceptual tests in which they were asked to choose from a set of resynthesized vowels the tokens that they felt best matched the vowels they heard in the speech of a fellow Detroiter. Half of the respondents were told that the speaker was from Detroit, whereas half were told that she was from Canada. Respondents given the Canadian label chose raised-diphthong tokens as those present in the dialect of the speaker, whereas those given the Michigan label did not. Respondents given the Michigan label chose vowels that were quite different from the Northern Cities Chain-Shifted variety present in the speaker’s dialect. Because the “speaker’s” perceived nationality was the only aspect that varied between the two groups of respondents, this label alone must have caused the difference in the selection of tokens. This indicates that listeners use social information in speech perception.
