TL;DR: 3‐(2,4‐Dimethoxybenzylidene)‐anabaseine is an analog of the paralytic alkaloid, anabaseine, from the ribbon worms Amphiporus sp.
Abstract: 3-(2,4-Dimethoxybenzylidene)-anabaseine is an analog of the paralytic alkaloid, anabaseine, from the ribbon worms Amphiporus sp., that shows numerous properties, in particular an agonist activity on alpha7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. This article reviews these properties and explains to what extent they could be valuable to control symptomatology and/or neurodegeneration in Alzheimer's disease. TL;DR: A novel self-learning digital twin strategy is developed for fluid sloshing phenomena and real-time prediction of the fluid response is obtained from a reduced order model (ROM) constructed by means of thermodynamics-informed data-driven learning.
Abstract: In this paper, a novel self-learning digital twin strategy is developed for fluid sloshing phenomena. This class of problems is of utmost importance for robotic manipulation of fluids, for instance, or, in general, in simulation-assisted decision making. The proposed method infers the (linear or non-linear) constitutive behavior of the fluid from video sequences of the sloshing phenomena. Real-time prediction of the fluid response is obtained from a reduced order model (ROM) constructed by means of thermodynamics-informed data-driven learning. From these data, we aim to predict the future response of a twin fluid reacting to the movement of the real container. The constructed system is able to perform accurate forecasts of its future reactions to the movements of the containers. The system is completed with augmented reality techniques, so as to enable comparisons among the predicted result with the actual response of the same liquid and to provide the user with insightful information about the physics taking place.

15 May 2011TL;DR: An analytical evaluation of the performance of the zero forcing precoding technique in terms of outage probability in a multicellular multiuser context using the channel model includes path loss shadowing and Rayleigh flat fading.
Abstract: In this paper we propose an analytical evaluation of the performance of the zero forcing precoding technique in terms of outage probability in a multicellular multiuser context. The channel model includes path loss shadowing and Rayleigh flat fading. Two cases are examined. The first one considers a constant lognormal shadowing. In this case, a closed form expression of the outage probability is derived. In the second case we consider a randomly variable lognormal shadowing and we propose an easily computable expression of the outage probability. Simulation results show the degradation of performance induced by the shadowing.

TL;DR: A method for measuring the length of individual branches, and thereby the total length of the ureteric tree in 3 dimensions (3D), which will be of use in analysing u reteric growth in kidneys cultured in the presence of specific molecules suspected of regulating ureTERic growth.
Abstract: The growth and branching of the epithelial ureteric tree is critical for development of the permanent kidney (metanephros). Current methods of analysis of ureteric branching are mostly qualitative. We have developed a method for measuring the length of individual branches, and thereby the total length of the ureteric tree in 3 dimensions (3D). The method involves confocal microscopy of whole-mount immunostained metanephroi and computer-based image segmentation, skeletonisation and measurement. The algorithm performs semi-automatic segmentation of a set of confocal images and skeletonisation of the resulting binary object. Length measurements and number of branch points are automatically obtained. The final representation can be reconstructed providing a fully rotating 3D perspective of the skeletonised tree. After 36 h culture of E12 mouse metanephroi, the total length of the ureteric tree was 6103 +/- 291 microm (mean +/- SD), a four-fold increase compared with metanephroi cultured for just 6 h (1522 +/- 149 microm). Ureteric duct length increased at a rate of 153 microm/h over the first 30 h period and was maximal between 18 and 24 h at 325 microm/h. The distribution of branch lengths at the six time points studied was similar, suggesting tight control of ureteric lengthening and branching. This method will be of use in analysing ureteric growth in kidneys cultured in the presence of specific molecules suspected of regulating ureteric growth. The method can also be used to analyse in vivo kidneys and to quantify branching morphogenesis in other developing organs.
