TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyzed the mechanical behavior and failure mechanisms of three polymer-metal configurations: lap, T and Arcan joint configurations, where the metal was locally structured by pulsed laser radiation producing micro-patterns to improve adhesion of the polymeric part.

TL;DR: In this paper, two different superalloys are studied: a first-generation one and a fourthgeneration one containing Re, Ru and Hf, and the main results of this work are shown that the MCNG-based system is significantly more resistant to spallation than the AM1-based one.
Abstract: This study deals with the cyclic oxidation behaviour of thermal barrier coating systems. The systems consist of an yttria-stabilised zircona ceramic top coat deposited by EB-PVD, a β-(Ni,Pt)Al bond coat and a Ni-based superalloy. Two different superalloys are studied: a first-generation one and a fourthgeneration one containing Re, Ru and Hf. The aim of this work is to characterise the microstructural evolution of those systems and to correlate it to their resistance to spallation. Thermal cycling is carried out at 1100°C in laboratory air, with the number of cycles ranging between 10 and 1000. Each cycle consists of a 1 h dwell followed by forced-air cooling for 15 min down to room temperature. Among the main results of this work, it is shown that the MCNG-based system is significantly more resistant to spallation than the AM1-based one. Up to 50 cycles, both systems exhibit similar oxidation rate and phase transformations but major differences are observed after long-term ageing. In particular, ...

TL;DR: In this article, a single-edge wedge specimen of the SiMo cast iron was used to simulate the conditions experienced by exhaust manifolds during operation and the leading edge temperature was cycled between 20 and 750 °C and the temperature distribution on the specimen surface was measured by thermocouples.
Abstract: Thermal fatigue experiments have been carried out on a single-edge wedge specimen of the SiMo cast iron to reproduce the conditions experienced by exhaust manifolds during operation. The leading edge temperature was cycled between 20 and 750 °C and the temperature distribution on the specimen surface was measured by thermocouples throughout the thermal cycle. Due to the complexity of the loading and interaction effects between cracks, numerical simulation of crack propagation and shielding effects in multicracked structures appear a useful way to analyze this problem. Therefore, 3D thermo-mechanical computation was performed with the finite element code ABAQUS of both un-cracked and multicracked specimen. This computation allowed us to assess the temperature, stresses and strains distribution over a thermal fatigue specimen and the estimation of the crack growth rate using the energy criteria based on the calculation of the J-integral crack tip.

TL;DR: The convergence of the SHUS algorithm is proved, and some similarities of SHUS with the well-tempered metadynamics method Barducci et al. are exhibited.
Abstract: The Self-Healing Umbrella Sampling (SHUS) algorithm is an adaptive biasing algorithm which has been proposed to efficiently sample a multimodal probability measure. We show that this method can be seen as a variant of the well-known Wang-Landau algorithm. Adapting results on the convergence of the Wang-Landau algorithm, we prove the convergence of the SHUS algorithm. We also compare the two methods in terms of efficiency. We finally propose a modification of the SHUS algorithm in order to increase its efficiency, and exhibit some similarities of SHUS with the well-tempered metadynamics method.
