Abstract: We report the preparation and hydrogenation performance of a single-site palladium catalyst that was obtained by the anchoring of Pd atoms into the cavities of mesoporous polymeric graphitic carbon nitride. The characterization of the material confirmed the atomic dispersion of the palladium phase throughout the sample. The catalyst was applied for three-phase hydrogenations of alkynes and nitroarenes in a continuous-flow reactor, showing its high activity and product selectivity in comparison with benchmark catalysts based on nanoparticles. Density functional theory calculations provided fundamental insights into the material structure and attributed the high catalyst activity and selectivity to the facile hydrogen activation and hydrocarbon adsorption on atomically dispersed Pd sites.

Abstract: New results for the complete one-loop contributions to the masses and mixing effects in the Higgs sector are obtained for the MSSM with complex parameters using the Feynman-diagrammatic approach. The full dependence on all relevant complex phases is taken into account, and all the imaginary parts appearing in the calculation are treated in a consistent way. The renormalization is discussed in detail, and a hybrid on-shell/ scheme is adopted. We also derive the wave function normalization factors needed in processes with external Higgs bosons and discuss effective couplings incorporating leading higher-order effects. The complete one-loop corrections, supplemented by the available two-loop corrections in the Feynman-diagrammatic approach for the MSSM with real parameters and a resummation of the leading (s)bottom corrections for complex parameters, are implemented into the public Fortran code FeynHiggs 2.5. In our numerical analysis the full results for the Higgs-boson masses and couplings are compared with various approximations, and -violating effects in the mixing of the heavy Higgs bosons are analyzed in detail. We find sizable deviations in comparison with the approximations often made in the literature.

Abstract: The CMS apparatus was identified, a few years before the start of the LHC operation at CERN, to feature properties well suited to particle-flow (PF) reconstruction: a highly-segmented tracker, a fine-grained electromagnetic calorimeter, a hermetic hadron calorimeter, a strong magnetic field, and an excellent muon spectrometer. A fully-fledged PF reconstruction algorithm tuned to the CMS detector was therefore developed and has been consistently used in physics analyses for the first time at a hadron collider. For each collision, the comprehensive list of final-state particles identified and reconstructed by the algorithm provides a global event description that leads to unprecedented CMS performance for jet and hadronic τ decay reconstruction, missing transverse momentum determination, and electron and muon identification. This approach also allows particles from pileup interactions to be identified and enables efficient pileup mitigation methods. The data collected by CMS at a centre-of-mass energy of 8\TeV show excellent agreement with the simulation and confirm the superior PF performance at least up to an average of 20 pileup interactions.

Abstract: Microtubules have fundamental roles in many essential biological processes, including cell division and intracellular transport. They assemble and disassemble from their two ends, denoted the plus end and the minus end. Significant advances have been made in our understanding of microtubule plus-end-tracking proteins (+TIPs) such as end-binding protein 1 (EB1), XMAP215, selected kinesins and dynein. By contrast, information on microtubule minus-end-targeting proteins (-TIPs), such as the calmodulin-regulated spectrin-associated proteins (CAMSAPs) and Patronin, has only recently started to emerge. Here, we review our current knowledge of factors, including microtubule-targeting agents, that associate with microtubule ends to control the dynamics and function of microtubules during the cell cycle and development.
