TL;DR: In this article, a review of magnetic and magneto-optical work devoted to lead and bismuth-substituted iron garnet films is presented, where the influence of these ions on the saturation magnetization, compensation temperature, uniaxial anisotropy, refractive index, optical absorption, Faraday rotation and ellipticity and Kerr rotation and ellipsis is discussed with respect to the composition and temperature dependence.

TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown from corresponding measurements performed with a semiconductor electrode that the electrochemical properties of persulfate and hydrogen peroxide have to be described by two instead of one redox (normal) potential.
Abstract: Electrochemical studies have shown that the reduction of persulfate and hydrogen peroxide is a two step mechanism, the first step occurs by electron transfer with the conduction band and the second step by hole injection with the valence band. It could be concluded from corresponding measurements performed with a semiconductor electrode that the electrochemical properties of these oxidizing agents have to be described by two instead of one redox (normal) potential. One normal potential is much lower and the other much larger than the theoretical value determined from thermodynamic data. These values are estimated as and .

02 Nov 2003TL;DR: This paper investigates different cross-modal association methods using the linear correlation model, and introduces a novel method for cross- modal association called Cross-modAL Factor Analysis (CFA), which shows several advantages in analysis performance and feature usage.
Abstract: Multimodal information processing has received considerable attention in recent years The focus of existing research in this area has been predominantly on the use of fusion technology In this paper, we suggest that cross-modal association can provide a new set of powerful solutions in this area We investigate different cross-modal association methods using the linear correlation model We also introduce a novel method for cross-modal association called Cross-modal Factor Analysis (CFA) Our earlier work on Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) is extended for applications that use off-line supervised training As a promising research direction and practical application of cross-modal association, cross-modal information retrieval where queries from one modality are used to search for content in another modality using low-level features is then discussed in detail Different association methods are tested and compared using the proposed cross-modal retrieval system All these methods achieve significant dimensionality reduction Among them CFA gives the best retrieval performance Finally, this paper addresses the use of cross-modal association to detect talking heads The CFA method achieves 911% detection accuracy, while LSI and Canonical Correlation Analysis (CCA) achieve 661% and 739% accuracy, respectively As shown by experiments, cross-modal association provides many useful benefits, such as robust noise resistance and effective feature selection Compared to CCA and LSI, the proposed CFA shows several advantages in analysis performance and feature usage Its capability in feature selection and noise resistance also makes CFA a promising tool for many multimedia analysis applications

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used the transient supersaturation in a system undergoing Ostwald ripening is related to the cluster formation energy as a function of cluster size, and used this relation to study the energetics of self-interstitial clusters in Si.
Abstract: The transient supersaturation in a system undergoing Ostwald ripening is related to the cluster formation energy ${E}_{\mathrm{fc}}$ as a function of cluster size $n$. We use this relation to study the energetics of self-interstitial clusters in Si. Measurements of transient enhanced diffusion of B in Si-implanted Si are used to determine $S(t)$, and inverse modeling is used to derive ${E}_{\mathrm{fc}}(n)$. For clusters with $ng15$, ${E}_{\mathrm{fc}}\ensuremath{\approx}0.8\mathrm{eV}$, close to the fault energy of ${113}$ defects. For clusters with $nl10$, ${E}_{\mathrm{fc}}$ is typically 0.5 eV higher, but stabler clusters exist at $n\ensuremath{\approx}4$ ( ${E}_{\mathrm{fc}}\ensuremath{\approx}1.0\mathrm{eV}$) and $n\ensuremath{\approx}8$ ( ${E}_{\mathrm{fc}}\ensuremath{\approx}0.6\mathrm{eV}$).
