TL;DR: In this paper, a CDMA design study for future third-generation mobile and personal communication systems such as FPLMTS and UMTS is presented, focusing on high flexibility with respect to the implementation of a wide range of services and service bit rates including variable rate and packet services.
Abstract: This paper focuses on a CDMA design study for future third-generation mobile and personal communication systems such as FPLMTS and UMTS. In the design study, a rigorous top down approach is adopted starting from the most essential objectives and requirements of universal third-generation mobile systems. Emphasis is laid on high flexibility with respect to the implementation of a wide range of services and service bit rates including variable rate and packet services. Flexibility in frequency and radio resource management, system and service deployment, and easy operation in mixed-cell and multioperator scenarios are further important design goals. The system concept under investigation is centered around an open and flexible radio interface architecture based on asynchronous direct-sequence CDMA with three different chip rates of approximately 1,5, and 20 Mchip/s

TL;DR: The concepts of multiscale spatiotemporal tracking through the use of real-time video analysis, active cameras, multiple object models, and long-term pattern analysis to provide comprehensive situation awareness are explored.
Abstract: Situation awareness is the key to security. Awareness requires information that spans multiple scales of space and time. Smart video surveillance systems are capable of enhancing situational awareness across multiple scales of space and time. However, at the present time, the component technologies are evolving in isolation. To provide comprehensive, nonintrusive situation awareness, it is imperative to address the challenge of multiscale, spatiotemporal tracking. This article explores the concepts of multiscale spatiotemporal tracking through the use of real-time video analysis, active cameras, multiple object models, and long-term pattern analysis to provide comprehensive situation awareness.

TL;DR: The reduced surface field (RESURF) technology is one of the most widely used methods for the design of lateral high-voltage, low on-resistance devices as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: RESURF (Reduced Surface Field) technology is one of the most widely-used methods for the design of lateral high-voltage, low on-resistance devices. The technique has allowed the integration of HV devices, ranging from 20 V to 1200 V, with bipolar and MOS transistors. A technical review is given on the technology as developed during the last 20 years. The paper discusses the invention and its application in discrete devices, in Junction-Isolated IC's and SOI, and as Multiple Resurf. It includes an evaluation of topics like breakdown, on-resistance, high-side and high-current effects and reliability.
