22 Sep 2004TL;DR: In this paper, a bypass clock instead of the boundary clock is proposed as an enhancement of the IEEE-1588 standard for bridged networks, where the local clock adjustment can be modeled by a corresponding control loop.
Abstract: The IEEE-1588 standard for a high precision time synchronization now exists since 2002. For using this standard in bridged networks a so-called boundary clock is defined, where the local clock adjustment can be modeled by a corresponding control loop. At the field level of industrial automation systems, the line topology is very important. By using Ethernet at the field level, the resulting chain of bridges leads to a cascade of control loops and may lead to instabilities and deviations of the distributed clocks, which are not acceptable. For this application a bypass clock instead of the boundary clock is proposed as an enhancement of the IEEE-1588 standard. The effectiveness of this extension to be evaluated by simulation technique.

15 Oct 2001TL;DR: The paper considers the impact of the dwell time within the stations upon real-time behavior and suggests a bus-like topology to enable fieldbus-like cabling qualities.
Abstract: Focuses on the special requirements of the control-level within factory communication systems to transmit real-time data via a switched Ethernet network. A performance evaluation of switched Ethernet is presented by providing simulation results. The simulations study the influence of different network topologies as well as the scheduling algorithms first-come-first-served and priority queuing within devices and intermediate systems, like switches. Furthermore we suggest a bus-like topology to enable fieldbus-like cabling qualities. Moreover the paper considers the impact of the dwell time within the stations upon real-time behavior.

06 Jun 2013TL;DR: In this article, an electrical connection terminal with two clamping springs (3, 3') and a current bar is described, where the clamping points are arranged next to each other in relation to the longitudinal extension of the current bar.
Abstract: The invention illustrates and describes an electrical connection terminal having a housing (2), two clamping springs (3, 3') and a current bar (4), wherein a chamber (5) is formed in the housing (2) for receiving the clamping springs (3, 3') and at least one end of the current bar (4) as well as a conductor insertion opening (6) for inserting two conductors, and wherein the clamping springs (3, 3') are arranged next to each other in relation to the longitudinal extension of the current bar (4). In the electrical connection terminal (1) according to the invention, the clamping springs (3, 3') comprise each a clamping limb (7), an operating limb (8) and a back (9) which connects the two limbs (7, 8) to one another, wherein the clamping limbs (7), together with the current bar (4), form in each case a clamping point for a stripped conductor that is to be connected. Moreover, a spring receptacle (10) is provided within the chamber (5), which has a partition (11), the two clamping springs (3, 3') being disposed on a respective side of the partition (11).

01 Jan 1999TL;DR: In this paper Switched Ethernet networks with different topologies are analyzed concerning the transmission delays and a typical master-slave scenario of an automation system is investigated.
Abstract: Ethernet is the most famous type of communication network used for office applications. Currently, networks used on field level and on office level are different due to their specific requirements. Especially for real-time systems, the deterministic behavior of the network is very important. Now Switched Ethernet seems to be applicable also on field level, because collisions can be avoided and priorities can be used. In this paper Switched Ethernet networks with different topologies are analyzed concerning the transmission delays. Therefore a typical master-slave scenario of an automation system is investigated.
