30 Mar 2011TL;DR: A detailed survey of the existing hardware and software platform for SDRs is presented and prototype system for designing and testing of software defined radios in MATLAB/Simulink is presents and the salient functions of the prototype system are discussed.
Abstract: Software Defined Radio (SDR) is a flexible architecture which can be configured to adapt various wireless standards, waveforms, frequency bands, bandwidths, and modes of operations. This paper presents a detailed survey of the existing hardware and software platform for SDRs. It also presents prototype system for designing and testing of software defined radios in MATLAB/Simulink and briefly discusses the salient functions of the prototype system for Cognitive Radio (CR). A prototype system for wireless personal area network is built and interfaced with a Universal Software Radio Peripheral-2 (USRP2) main-board and RFX2400 daughter board from Ettus Research LLC. The philosophy behind the prototype is to do all waveform-specific processing such as channel coding, modulation, filtering etc. on a host (PC) and general purpose high-speed operations like digital up and down conversion, decimation and interpolation etc. inside FPGA on an USRP2. MATLAB has a rich family of toolboxes that allows building software-defined and cognitive radio to explore various spectrum sensing, prediction and management techniques.

14 Aug 2012TL;DR: In this article, a junction box for a solar panel, having a short-circuiting switch between the output-side connecting elements of the first and second external connecting lines, is described.
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a junction box for a solar panel, having a protective circuit that defines an operating state and a protected state. The protective circuit includes a short-circuiting switch between the output-side connecting elements of the first and second external connecting lines and an isolating switch between the short-circuiting switch and one of the poles of the solar panel, in which in the protected state, the short-circuiting switch short-circuits the output-side connecting elements of the first and second connecting lines to each other and the isolating switch disconnects the short-circuiting switch from the solar panel on at least one side.

TL;DR: There is a need for a better therapy to definitively prevent allergic contact dermatitis to these plants and current postexposure treatment and preventive methods are inadequate.
Abstract: Poison ivy, poison oak, and poison sumac are the most common causes of clinically diagnosed allergic contact dermatitis in North America. Approximately 50% to 75% of the US adult population is clinically sensitive to poison ivy, oak, and sumac. We reviewed the botany and history of these plants; urushiol chemistry and pathophysiology, clinical features, and the prevalence of allergic contact dermatitis caused by these plants; and current postexposure treatment and preventive methods, including ongoing investigations in the development of a vaccine (immunotherapy). Although extensive efforts have been made to develop therapies that prevent and treat contact dermatitis to these plants, there lacks an entirely effective method, besides complete avoidance. There is a need for a better therapy to definitively prevent allergic contact dermatitis to these plants.

08 Dec 2009TL;DR: In this paper, a contact clamp for connecting a conductor end to an electrical contact and having an insertion side from which the conductor end can be inserted into the contact clamp, comprising a clamp limb that is mounted in a pivotal manner and can be pivoted between an open pivot position and a closed pivot position.
Abstract: The invention relates to a contact clamp for connecting a conductor end to an electrical contact and having an insertion side from which the conductor end can be inserted into the contact clamp, comprising a clamp limb that is mounted in a pivotal manner and can be pivoted between an open pivot position and a closed pivot position. The clamp limb clamps the conductor end against the contact section in the closed pivot position, when the conductor end is inserted into the contact clamp in the target contact position, and the clamp limb is pivoted away from the contact section in the open pivot position and releases the contact region in the contact clamp such that the conductor end can be inserted into the contact clamp in the open pivot position and is released for removal from the contact clamp. The clamp limb runs obliquely to the contact section and is designed in an elastically moveable way in the closed pivoting position, such that the conductor end can be inserted into the contact clamp in the closed pivot position while elastically pushing the clamp limb into the target contact position.
