TL;DR: The demonstration of two-Electron interference provides the possibility of manipulating coherent and indistinguishable single-electron wave packets in quantum conductors.
Abstract: The on-demand emission of coherent and indistinguishable electrons by independent synchronized sources is a challenging task of quantum electronics, in particular regarding its application for quantum information processing. Using two independent on-demand electron sources, we triggered the emission of two single-electron wave packets at different inputs of an electronic beam splitter. Whereas classical particles would be randomly partitioned by the splitter, we observed two-particle interference resulting from quantum exchange. Both electrons, emitted in indistinguishable wave packets with synchronized arrival time on the splitter, exited in different outputs as recorded by the low-frequency current noise. The demonstration of two-electron interference provides the possibility of manipulating coherent and indistinguishable single-electron wave packets in quantum conductors.

TL;DR: The medical records of patients with a clinical suspicion of ICI-related cardiotoxicity were reviewed from the databases of 2 cardio-oncology units between March 2015 and April 2017 and found no specific follow-up had previously been established for patients receiving ICIs during the study period.
Abstract: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) represent a major advance in the treatment of cancer. Although clinical trials reported a low incidence of immune-related cardiovascular adverse events,1 the number of published life-threatening cases of cardiotoxicity is increasing.2 In this descriptive observational analysis, we aimed to describe the clinical manifestations, management, and outcomes of patients who developed ICI-related cardiotoxicity. The medical records of patients with a clinical suspicion of ICI-related cardiotoxicity were reviewed from the databases of 2 cardio-oncology units between March 2015 and April 2017. The patients are managed according to similar protocols. Because no specific follow-up had previously been established for patients receiving ICIs during the study period, the oncologists referred patients receiving ICIs only on the basis of their clinical suspicion of cardiovascular events. These patients had a standardized evaluation including clinical consultation, ECG, transthoracic echocardiography, and measurement of brain natriuretic peptide and troponin I serum levels. The management of cardiotoxicity was left to the physician’s discretion. The study was approved by our institutional review board, and informed consent has been obtained from the subjects. To create a pooled analysis, we also searched PubMed for English articles reporting cases of ICI-related cardiotoxicity until April 2017. We selected …

TL;DR: Patients with rare defects in the gene encoding proopiomelanocortin have extreme early-onset obesity, hyperphagia, hypopigmentation, and hypocortisolism and are treated with setmelanotide, a new melanocortIn-4 receptor agonist, which had a sustainable reduction in hunger and substantial weight loss.
Abstract: Patients with rare defects in the gene encoding proopiomelanocortin (POMC) have extreme early-onset obesity, hyperphagia, hypopigmentation, and hypocortisolism, resulting from the lack of the proopiomelanocortin-derived peptides melanocyte-stimulating hormone and corticotropin. In such patients, adrenal insufficiency must be treated with hydrocortisone early in life. No effective pharmacologic treatments have been available for the hyperphagia and obesity that characterize the condition. In this investigator-initiated, open-label study, two patients with proopiomelanocortin deficiency were treated with setmelanotide, a new melanocortin-4 receptor agonist. The patients had a sustainable reduction in hunger and substantial weight loss (51.0 kg after 42 weeks in Patient 1 and 20.5 kg after 12 weeks in Patient 2).

TL;DR: This finding prompted us to look carefully at 1D systems containing anisotropic elements, such as cobalt and low-spin iron centers that the authors synthesized recently, and opened the perspective of a potential use of 1D magnetic molecular nanowires for information storage.
Abstract: and opened the perspective of a potential useof 1D magnetic molecular nanowires for information storage.Even though 1D magnetism is a very active area of research, such dynamic behavior was never detected before since it isnot clear how to fulfill experimentally the requirements of aperfect 1D Ising-type chain. This finding prompted us to lookcarefully at 1D systems containing anisotropic elements, suchas cobalt(ii) and low-spin iron(iii) centers that we synthesizedrecently,
