TL;DR: In this article, the concept of quantum spiral bandwidth of the spatial mode function of the two-photon entangled state generated in spontaneous parametric down-conversion was proposed and its dependence with the length of the downconverting crystals and waist of the pump beam was revealed.
Abstract: We put forward the concept of quantum spiral bandwidth of the spatial mode function of the two-photon entangled state generated in spontaneous parametric down-conversion. We obtain the bandwidth using the eigenstates of the orbital angular momentum of the biphoton states, and reveal its dependence with the length of the down-converting crystals and waist of the pump beam. The connection between the quantum spiral bandwidth and the entropy of entanglement of the quantum state is discussed.

TL;DR: In this article, the main contributors to recharge and discharge clearly differ from those in natural systems, and water can affect underground structures and infrastructure characteristics of cities such as basements, public transport services (trains, underground railways, etc.), and utility conduits.
Abstract: A number of specific factors must be considered when dealing with groundwater in urban areas. Urbanization significantly affects the natural water cycle, both in terms of quantity and quality. In particular, the main contributors to recharge and discharge clearly differ from those in natural systems. Moreover, water can affect underground structures and infrastructure characteristics of cities such as basements, public transport services (trains, underground railways, etc.), and utility conduits. As a result, urban groundwater is emerging as a distinct branch of hydrogeology. The objective of this paper is to review some of the topics that are specific to urban groundwater. These include (1) fluctuations in groundwater levels caused by changes in land and water uses; (2) pollution problems caused by point or non-point sources in urban areas; (3) characterization and quantification of the components contributing to groundwater recharge and discharge; (4) specific characteristics of groundwater flow and solute transport models in urban areas; and (5) integration of data for sustainable urban water management. Some of these issues are illustrated for the particular case of Barcelona, where a comprehensive hydrogeological study has been carried out during the last few years by both the public and the private sectors.

TL;DR: Simulations of a simple rate equation model show good qualitative agreement with the experiments and provide a framework for understanding the observed extreme amplitude events as the result of a deterministic nonlinear process.
Abstract: Experimental observations of rare giant pulses or rogue waves were done in the output intensity of an optically injected semiconductor laser. The long-tailed probability distribution function of the pulse amplitude displays clear non-Gaussian features that confirm the rogue wave character of the intensity pulsations. Simulations of a simple rate equation model show good qualitative agreement with the experiments and provide a framework for understanding the observed extreme amplitude events as the result of a deterministic nonlinear process.

TL;DR: A new model of robot-person interaction is obtained using the so-called Social Force Model (SFM) which is suited for the authors' robots Tibi and Dabo and an interactive scheme for robot's human-awareness navigation using the SFM and prediction information is proposed.
Abstract: Robots accompanying humans is one of the core capacities every service robot deployed in urban settings should have. We present a novel robot companion approach based on the so-called Social Force Model (SFM). A new model of robot-person interaction is obtained using the SFM which is suited for our robots Tibi and Dabo. Additionally, we propose an interactive scheme for robot's human-awareness navigation using the SFM and prediction information. Moreover, we present a new metric to evaluate the robot companion performance based on vital spaces and comfortableness criteria. Also, a multimodal human feedback is proposed to enhance the behavior of the system. The validation of the model is accomplished throughout an extensive set of simulations and real-life experiments.
