TL;DR: This paper presents a mechanism based on execution tracing and cryptography that allows one to detect attacks against code, state, and execution flow of mobile software components.
Abstract: Mobile code systems are technologies that allow applications to move their code, and possibly the corresponding state, among the nodes of a wide-area network. Code mobility is a flexible and powerful mechanism that can be exploited to build distributed applications in an Internet scale. At the same time, the ability to move code to and from remote hosts introduces serious security issues. These issues include authentication of the parties involved and protection of the hosts from malicious code. However, the most difficult task is to protect mobile code against attacks coming from hosts. This paper presents a mechanism based on execution tracing and cryptography that allows one to detect attacks against code, state, and execution flow of mobile software components.

TL;DR: This paper introduces XML-GL, a graphical query language for XML documents that is inspired by G-log, a general purpose, logic-based language for querying structured and semi-structured data.
Abstract: The growing acceptance of XML as a standard for semi-structured documents on the Web opens up challenging opportunities for Web query languages. In this paper we introduce XML-GL, a graphical query language for XML documents. The use of a visual formalism for representing both the content of XML documents (and of their DTDs) and the syntax and semantics of queries enables an intuitive expression of queries, even when they are rather complex. XML-GL is inspired by G-log, a general purpose, logic-based language for querying structured and semi-structured data. The paper presents the basic capabilities of XML-GL through a sequence of examples of increasing complexity.

TL;DR: Results show that treating the MR residues ahead of the WTE plant does not provide environmental or economic benefits, and the energy balances show that the more thorough the pre-treatment, the smaller the amount of energy recovered per unit of MR residue.

TL;DR: In this paper, the impact of government-managed and independent venture capital (IVC) funds on the sales and employee growth of European high-tech entrepreneurial firms was assessed using a new European Union-sponsored firm-level longitudinal dataset, and the main statistically robust and economically relevant positive effect is exerted by IVC investors on firm sales growth.
Abstract: Using a new European Union-sponsored firm-level longitudinal dataset, we assess the impact of government-managed (GVC) and independent venture capital (IVC) funds on the sales and employee growth of European high-tech entrepreneurial firms. Our results show that the main statistically robust and economically relevant positive effect is exerted by IVC investors on firm sales growth. Conversely, the impact of GVC alone appears to be negligible. We also find a positive and statistically significant impact of syndicated investments by both types of investors on firm sales growth, but only when led by IVC investors. Our results remain stable after controlling for endogeneity, survivorship bias, reverse causality, anticipation effects, legal and institutional differences across countries and over time and are stable with respect to potential non-linear effects of age and size of entrepreneurial firms. Overall, our analysis casts doubt on the ability of governments to support high-tech entrepreneurial firms through a direct and active involvement in VC markets.
