TL;DR: In this article, a set of management techniques and supporting tools that can be used to analyse and describe supply chain management strategies are presented, along with a conceptual framework for SCM strategies.
Abstract: Supply chain management (SCM) is explored from an operational perspective, following a threefold approach. The article introduces a set of management techniques and supporting tools that can be used to analyse and describe SCM strategies. It proposes a new normative tool and uses it to examine a large set of relevant SCM case studies pertaining to seven industries: apparel, automobile, grocery, white goods, pharmaceuticals, computers and book publishing. The article develops a new conceptual framework for SCM strategies and test it based on empirical evidence. The new schemes proposed here provide a normative tool to define and represent supply chain strategies, a contingency model to support managers in designing supply chain strategies, and some hints for further research.

TL;DR: The rich interplay between the structural, vibrational, and electronic properties focusing on recent advances and the future perspectives of carbon-atom wires and novel hybrid sp-sp(2)-carbon architectures are discussed.
Abstract: This review provides a discussion of the current state of research on linear carbon structures and related materials based on sp-hybridization of carbon atoms (polyynes and cumulenes). We show that such systems have widely tunable properties and thus represent an intriguing and mostly unexplored field for both fundamental and applied sciences. We discuss the rich interplay between the structural, vibrational, and electronic properties focusing on recent advances and the future perspectives of carbon-atom wires and novel hybrid sp-sp(2)-carbon architectures.

TL;DR: A comparative analysis of the use of titanium oxide as coating for materials in biomedical devices and the main aspects of TiO2 photoactivated antimicrobial activity on medical devices and limitations for these types of applications are discussed.
Abstract: Titanium oxide is a heterogeneous catalyst whose efficient photoinduced activity, related to some of its allotropic forms, paved the way for its widespread technological use. Here, we offer a comparative analysis of the use of titanium oxide as coating for materials in biomedical devices. First, we introduce the photoinduced catalytic mechanisms of TiO2 and their action on biological environment and bacteria. Second, we overview the main physical and chemical technologies for structuring suitable TiO2 coatings on biomedical devices. We then present the approaches for in vitro characterization of these surfaces. Finally, we discuss the main aspects of TiO2 photoactivated antimicrobial activity on medical devices and limitations for these types of applications.

TL;DR: In this article, a plate and fin heat exchanger is considered and air, as an ideal gas, is defined in both sides of the heat exchange as the working fluid Several geometric variables within the logical constraints are considered as optimization parameters Two different objective functions including the total rate of heat transfer and the total annual cost of the system are defined.

TL;DR: A novel integral-type fuzzy switching surface function is put forward, which contains singular perturbation matrix and state-dependent input matrix simultaneously in a transformed fuzzy SPSs such that the matched uncertainty/perturbation is completely compensated without amplifying the unmatched one.
Abstract: This paper presents a new sliding mode control (SMC) design methodology for fuzzy singularly perturbed systems (SPSs) subject to matched/unmatched uncertainties. To fully accommodate the model characteristics of the systems, a novel integral-type fuzzy switching surface function is put forward, which contains singular perturbation matrix and state-dependent input matrix simultaneously. Its corresponding sliding mode dynamics is a transformed fuzzy SPSs such that the matched uncertainty/perturbation is completely compensated without amplifying the unmatched one. By adopting a $\boldsymbol \varepsilon $ -dependent Lyapunov function, sufficient conditions are presented to guarantee the asymptotic stability of sliding mode dynamics, and a simple search algorithm is provided to find the stability bound. Then, a fuzzy SMC law is synthesized to ensure the reaching condition despite matched/unmatched uncertainties. A modified adaptive fuzzy SMC law is further constructed for adapting the unknown upper bound of the matched uncertainty. The applicability and superiority of obtained fuzzy SMC methodology are verified by a controller design for an electric circuit system.
