TL;DR: Some pros and cons of adopting Bns for water resource planning and management are analyzed by framing their use within the context of a participatory and integrated planning procedure, and exploring how they can be integrated with other types of models.
Abstract: Bayesian Networks (Bns) are emerging as a valid approach for modelling and supporting decision making in the field of water resource management. Based on the coupling of an interaction graph to a probabilistic model, they have the potential to improve participation and allow integration with other models. The wide availability of ready-to-use software with which Bn models can be easily designed and implemented on a PC is further contributing to their spread. Although a number of papers are available in which the application of Bns to water-related problems is investigated, the majority of these works use the Bn semantics to model the whole water system, and thus do not discuss their integration with other types of model. In this paper some pros and cons of adopting Bns for water resource planning and management are analyzed by framing their use within the context of a participatory and integrated planning procedure, and exploring how they can be integrated with other types of models.

TL;DR: In this article, a structured evidence review suggests that climate change can undermine 16 SDGs, while combatting climate change could reinforce all 17 SDGs but undermine efforts to achieve 12.
Abstract: The international community has committed to combat climate change and achieve 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Here we explore (dis)connections in evidence and governance between these commitments. Our structured evidence review suggests that climate change can undermine 16 SDGs, while combatting climate change can reinforce all 17 SDGs but undermine efforts to achieve 12. Understanding these relationships requires wider and deeper interdisciplinary collaboration. Climate change and sustainable development governance should be better connected to maximize the effectiveness of action in both domains. The emergence around the world of new coordinating institutions and sustainable development planning represents promising progress. The international community has committed to fight climate change and achieve 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Here the authors assess evidence about the relationships between the two agendas and discuss the need of deeper interdisciplinary efforts to understand these relationships.

TL;DR: In this article, a technique for measuring the release of minority carriers emitted from deep levels in avalanche photodiodes (APDs) at operating conditions is discussed, which can be useful in tailoring gettering processes for APDs and in studies of traps at high electric fields.
Abstract: A technique for measuring the release of minority carriers emitted from deep levels in avalanche photodiodes (APDs) at operating conditions is discussed. The method, time-correlated carrier counting (TCCC), is very sensitive and accurate. Densities of filled traps were measured down to 10/sup 9/ cm/sup -3/ and lifetimes in the nanosecond range. This technique can be useful in tailoring gettering processes for APDs and in studies of traps at high electric fields. >

TL;DR: This work considers the asymmetric traveling salesman problem for which the triangular inequality is satisfied, and constructs examples to show that the worst-case ratio of length of tour found to minimum length tour is (n) for n city problems.
Abstract: We consider the asymmetric traveling salesman problem for which the triangular inequality is satisfied For various heuristics we construct examples to show that the worst-case ratio of length of tour found to minimum length tour is (n) for n city problems We also provide a new O([log2n]) heuristic

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of replacing part of portland cement with fly ash and bottom ash, both from municipal solid waste incinerators (MSWIs), was investigated. And the results showed that MSWI bottom ash is potentially attractive as mineral addition for the production of concrete, provided that the risk of entrapment of hydrogen bubbles produced by corrosion of aluminium metallic particles in the fresh concrete is prevented.
