TL;DR: It is demonstrated that GAPCps are important for the synthesis of serine in roots, and evidence that the phosphorylated pathway of Ser biosynthesis plays an important role in supplying serine to roots is provided.
Abstract: Glycolysis is a central metabolic pathway that, in plants, occurs in both the cytosol and the plastids The glycolytic glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GAPDH) catalyzes the conversion of glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate to 1,3-bisphosphoglycerate with concomitant reduction of NAD+ to NADH Both cytosolic (GAPCs) and plastidial (GAPCps) GAPDH activities have been described However, the in vivo functions of the plastidial isoforms remain unresolved In this work, we have identified two Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) chloroplast/plastid-localized GAPDH isoforms (GAPCp1 and GAPCp2) gapcp double mutants display a drastic phenotype of arrested root development, dwarfism, and sterility In spite of their low gene expression level as compared with other GAPDHs, GAPCp down-regulation leads to altered gene expression and to drastic changes in the sugar and amino acid balance of the plant We demonstrate that GAPCps are important for the synthesis of serine in roots Serine supplementation to the growth medium rescues root developmental arrest and restores normal levels of carbohydrates and sugar biosynthetic activities in gapcp double mutants We provide evidence that the phosphorylated pathway of Ser biosynthesis plays an important role in supplying serine to roots Overall, these studies provide insights into the in vivo functions of the GAPCps in plants Our results emphasize the importance of the plastidial glycolytic pathway, and specifically of GAPCps, in plant primary metabolism

TL;DR: In this article, the benefits and limitations of enlarging zeolite pores by means of MCM-41 structures have been outlined, and major advances have been made in improving the catalytic activity of heteropolyacids and ZrO2/So42−, as well as tackling the mechanism through which Zr O2/SO42− catalyzes hydrocarbon reactions.
Abstract: Using qualitative and quantitative models, including both short and long range effects, progress has been made in understanding acidity in zeolites, but limitations that still exist in measuring that acidity by use of probe molecules. The benefits and limitations of enlarging zeolite pores by means of MCM-41 structures have been outlined. Major advances have been made in improving the catalytic activity of heteropolyacids and ZrO2/So42−, as well as tackling the mechanism through which ZrO2/SO42− catalyzes hydrocarbon reactions. Finally, new advances have also been made in the preparation and potential as acid catalysts of organic—inorganic composites (Zr phosphates and phosphonates, polysiloxane, nafion—silica).

TL;DR: This paper creates natural language processing techniques and text markup parsing tools to automatically extract synthesis information and trends from zeolite journal articles and engineer a data set of germanium-containing zeolites to test the accuracy of the extracted data and to discover potential opportunities for zeolitic morphologies.
Abstract: Zeolites are porous, aluminosilicate materials with many industrial and “green” applications. Despite their industrial relevance, many aspects of zeolite synthesis remain poorly understood requiring costly trial and error synthesis. In this paper, we create natural language processing techniques and text markup parsing tools to automatically extract synthesis information and trends from zeolite journal articles. We further engineer a data set of germanium-containing zeolites to test the accuracy of the extracted data and to discover potential opportunities for zeolites containing germanium. We also create a regression model for a zeolite’s framework density from the synthesis conditions. This model has a cross-validated root mean squared error of 0.98 T/1000 A3, and many of the model decision boundaries correspond to known synthesis heuristics in germanium-containing zeolites. We propose that this automatic data extraction can be applied to many different problems in zeolite synthesis and enable novel zeo...
