TL;DR: In PAN'10, 18 plagiarism detectors were evaluated in detail, highlighting several important aspects of plagiarism detection, such as obfuscation, intrinsic vs. external plagiarism, and plagiarism case length as mentioned in this paper.
Abstract: Thispaper overviews 18 plagiarism detectors that have been developed and evaluated within PAN'10. We start with a unified retrieval process that sum- marizes the best practices employed this year. Then, the detectors' performances are evaluated in detail, highlighting several important aspects of plagiarism de- tection, such as obfuscation, intrinsic vs. external plagiarism, and plagiarism case length. Finally, all results are compared to those of last year's competition.

TL;DR: Although they induce symptoms in plants similar to those accompanying virus infections, viroids have unique structural, functional, and evolutionary characteristics and could exert their pathogenic effects via RNA silencing.
Abstract: Although they induce symptoms in plants similar to those accompanying virus infections, viroids have unique structural, functional, and evolutionary characteristics. They are composed of a small, nonprotein-coding, single-stranded, circular RNA, with autonomous replication. Viroid species are clustered into the families Pospiviroidae and Avsunviroidae, whose members replicate (and accumulate) in the nucleus and chloroplast, respectively. Viroids replicate in three steps through an RNA-based rolling-circle mechanism: synthesis of longer-than-unit strands catalyzed by host RNA polymerases; processing to unit-length, which in the family Avsunviroidae is mediated by hammerhead ribozymes; and circularization. Within the initially infected cells, viroid RNA must move to its replication organelle, with the resulting progeny then invading adjacent cells through plasmodesmata and reaching distal parts via the vasculature. To carry out these movements, viroids must interact with host factors. The mature viroid RNA ...

TL;DR: When irradiated with visible light, gold-supported ceria nanoparticles generate oxygen from water more efficiently than the standard WO(3) even under UV irradiation, arising from a novel preparation method to reduce the particle size of ceria.
Abstract: When irradiated with visible light (λ > 400 nm) 1 wt % gold-supported ceria nanoparticles generate oxygen from water (10.5 μmol·h–1) more efficiently than the standard WO3 (1.7 μmol·h–1) even under UV irradiation (9.5 μmol·h–1). This remarkable photocatalytic activity arises from a novel preparation method to reduce the particle size of ceria (5 nm) by means of electrostatic binding of Ce4+ to alginate gel, subsequent supercritical CO2 drying, and calcination. The low loading of Au is crucial for the observed high catalytic activity.
