TL;DR: In this paper, an internalist account of practical reasons which entail the idea that agents should deliberate to the best of their ability is presented, arguing that when one's trust that one's current desires will be fulfilled in making a transformative choice is reasonable, one has a reason to make it.
Abstract: In this article I reflect on the question of whether we can have reason to make transformative choices. In attempting to answer it, I do three things. First, I bring forward an internalist account of practical reasons which entails the idea that agents should deliberate to the best of their ability. Second, I discuss L.A. Paul’s views on transformative choice, arguing that, although they present a real problem, the problem is not as profound as she believes it is. Third, I argue that, given the situation in which we face transformative choices (a situation of principled uncertainty though not cluelessness), trust is an appropriate response to transformative choices, and that when one’s trust that one’s current desires will be fulfilled in making a transformative choice is reasonable, one has a reason to make it. Thus, trust turns out to be a crucial response to a profound problem each of us will face during our lives.

TL;DR: This article examined the attitudes of young Muslim adults in the Netherlands toward their context, by distinguishing their perceptions of society and their participation in society, and found that respondents in many cases do not link their religious identity to their involvement in society.
Abstract: This interview study examines the attitudes of orthoprax young Muslim adults in the Netherlands toward their context, by distinguishing their perceptions of society and their participation in society. In this study, we discover that orthoprax young Muslim adults oppose themselves to Dutch society and do not feel really connected to it. However, most of the time, they participate in society by having jobs, studying and having friends. We also see that respondents are particularly active in and involved with their own Islamic community. Respondents in many cases do not link their religious identity to their participation in society. This study shows three different styles of linking religion to participation: “Participating as far as Islam allows,” “Religion is very personal and individual,” and “Bridging the gap.” We discuss what the reason is for not linking religious identity to participation.

TL;DR: In this article, some major arguments in literature and church life against the indiscriminate acceptance of human rights in the church are listed, analysed and evaluated, including the understanding of : Law, Enlightenment, culture, world, tradition and ministry.
Abstract: Churches have a record of neglecting human rights in their internal lives, in spite of their history of advocating human rights in political life, and in spite of the theological value of human rights as such. How is this possible? Some major arguments in literature and church life against the indiscriminate acceptance of human rights in the church are listed, analysed and evaluated, including the understanding of : Law, Enlightenment, culture, world, tradition and ministry.

TL;DR: The authors argue that the intrinsic connection Desmond perceives between beauty, order, and creation leaves no room for experiences of a reality that is outside of order, using the account of the biblical story of Job.
Abstract: In reaction to William Desmond’s article, “The Shine on Things,” I argue firstly that Desmond’s approach is on some point similar to the approach of early idealism, and secondly, that the intrinsic connection Desmond perceives between beauty, order, and creation leaves no room for experiences of a reality that is outside of order. Using Kierkegaard’s account of the biblical story of Job I argue that Christian philosophy should be responsive to experiences of God that are not similar to experiences of order in the first place.

Abstract: INLEIDING ‘Siegers?

Abstract: This article is a preliminary attempt to understand the theology of Karl Barth in its relation to the ideas of Karl Marx. Barth mentions the name of Marx many times throughout his own writings and gives some theological responses to Marx’ thoughts, in modes both appreciative and critical. Barth even once claimed that theology properly worked out would result in a promise for liberation preferable to that of Marx. In this initial phase of research, the present article surveys the mentions of Marx throughout Barth’s works. The author considers each mention in context, before sketching in general and then identifying in specific certain themes resulting from this preliminary investigation, to be explored in further research.
