TL;DR: A method of classification of digitized multispectral image data is described, designed to exploit a particular type of dependence between adjacent states of nature that is characteristic of the data.
Abstract: A method of classification of digitized multispectral image data is described. It is designed to exploit a particular type of dependence between adjacent states of nature that is characteristic of the data. The advantages of this, as opposed to the conventional "per point" approach, are greater accuracy and efficiency, and the results are in a more desirable form for most purposes. Experimental results from both aircraft and satellite data are included.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors discuss the reflectance properties of soils and the instrumentation used for reflectance measurements, including spectroradiometers and multiband radiometers, which are divided into two broad classes: spectroradometers and multi-band radiometers.
Abstract: Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the reflectance properties of soils. In delineating differences among soils and in describing the characteristics of a soil profile, color is one of the most useful attributes for documenting these differences. Soil visible reflectance, or color, is a differentiating characteristic for many classes in all modern soil classification systems and is an essential part of the definitions for both surface and subsurface diagnostic horizons. The chapter includes instrumentation for reflectance measurements. Instruments that are used to measure the reflectance of soil are divided into two broad classes—namely, spectroradiometers and multiband radiometers. Multiband radiometers contain several optical filters to define the spectral bandpasses. These spectral bandpasses are selected to sample discrete portions of the optical spectrum, e.g., the Landsat multispectral scanner or the thematic mapper bands. The character of reflected light from a soil surface depends on the nature of the surface and the intensity and spectral quality of the radiation incident upon the surface. The soil surface may be irradiated by direct sunlight, scattered skylight, and thermal radiation from the surroundings.

TL;DR: The 2-D unitary ESPRIT is presented as an algorithm providing the same capabilities for a uniform rectangular array (URA) providing automatically paired source azimuth and elevation angle estimates.
Abstract: The UCA-ESPRIT is a closed-form algorithm developed for use in conjunction with a uniform circular array (UCA) that provides automatically paired source azimuth and elevation angle estimates. The 2-D unitary ESPRIT is presented as an algorithm providing the same capabilities for a uniform rectangular array (URA). In the final stage of the algorithm, the real and imaginary parts of the ith eigenvalue of a matrix are one-to-one related to the respective direction cosines of the ith source relative to the two major array axes. The 2-D unitary ESPRIT offers a number of advantages over other proposed ESPRIT based closed-form 2-D angle estimation techniques. First, except for the final eigenvalue decomposition of a dimension equal to the number of sources, it is efficiently formulated in terms of real-valued computation throughout. Second, it is amenable to efficient beamspace implementations that are presented. Third, it is applicable to array configurations that do not exhibit identical subarrays, e.g., two orthogonal linear arrays. Finally, the 2-D unitary ESPRIT easily handles sources having one member of the spatial frequency coordinate pair in common. Simulation results are presented verifying the efficacy of the method.

TL;DR: Carbon nanotube field effect transistors with structures and properties near the scaling limit with short (down to 50 nm) channels, self-aligned geometries, palladium electrodes with low contact resistance, and high-K dielectric gate insulators are realized in this article.
Abstract: Carbon nanotube field-effect transistors with structures and properties near the scaling limit with short (down to 50 nm) channels, self-aligned geometries, palladium electrodes with low contact resistance, and high-K dielectric gate insulators are realized. Electrical transport in these miniature transistors is nearly ballistic up to high biases at both room and low temperatures. Atomic-layer-deposited (ALD) high-K films interact with nanotube sidewalls via van der Waals interactions without causing weak localization at 4 K. New fundamental understanding of ballistic transport, optical phonon scattering, and potential interfacial scattering mechanisms in nanotubes is obtained. Also, parallel arrays of such molecular transistors are enabled to deliver macroscopic currents-an important milestone for future circuit applications.
