Abstract: This paper presents an efficient localization scheme for an indoors mobile robot using Radio-Frequency IDentification (RFID) systems. The mobile robot carries an RFID reader at the bottom of the chassis, which reads the RFID tags on the floor to localize the mobile robot. Each of the RFID tags stores its own absolute position, which is used to calculate the position, orientation, and velocity of the mobile robot. However, a localization system based on RFID technology inevitably suffers from an estimation error. In this paper, a new triangular pattern of arranging the RFID tags on the floor has been proposed to reduce the estimation error of the conventional square pattern. In addition, the motion-continuity property of the differential-driving mobile robot has been utilized to improve the localization accuracy of the mobile robot. According to the conventional approach, two readers are necessary to identify the orientation of the mobile robot. Therefore, this new approach, based on the motion-continuity property of the differential-driving mobile robot, provides a cheap and fast estimation of the orientation. The proposed algorithms used to raise the accuracy of the robot localization are successfully verified through experiments.

Abstract: The production of π+, π−, K+, K−, p, and \(\overline{\mathrm{p}}\) at mid-rapidity has been measured in proton-proton collisions at \(\sqrt{s} = 900~\mathrm{GeV}\) with the ALICE detector. Particle identification is performed using the specific energy loss in the inner tracking silicon detector and the time projection chamber. In addition, time-of-flight information is used to identify hadrons at higher momenta. Finally, the distinctive kink topology of the weak decay of charged kaons is used for an alternative measurement of the kaon transverse momentum (pt) spectra. Since these various particle identification tools give the best separation capabilities over different momentum ranges, the results are combined to extract spectra from pt=100 MeV/c to 2.5 GeV/c. The measured spectra are further compared with QCD-inspired models which yield a poor description. The total yields and the mean pt are compared with previous measurements, and the trends as a function of collision energy are discussed.

Abstract: Transverse momentum spectra of pi(+/-), p, and (p) over bar p up to 12 GeV/c at midrapidity in centrality selected Au + Au collisions at root s(NN) = 200 GeV are presented. In central Au + Au collisions, both pi(+/-) and p((p) over bar) show significant suppression with respect to binary scaling at p(T) greater than or similar to 4 GeV/c. Protons and antiprotons are less suppressed than pi(+/-), in the range 1.5 less than or similar to p(T) less than or similar to 6 GeV/c. The pi(-)/pi(+) and (p) over bar /p ratios show at most a weak pT dependence and no significant centrality dependence. The p/pi ratios in central Au + Au collisions approach the values in p + p and d + Au collisions at p(T) greater than or similar to 5 GeV/c. The results at high p(T) indicate that the partonic sources of pi(+/-), p, and (p) over bar have similar energy loss when traversing the nuclear medium

Abstract: We describe the process of F\"orster transfer between semiconductor nanoparticles in the presence of a metal subsystem (metal nanocrystals). In the presence of metal nanocrystals, the F\"orster process can become faster. The enhancement of F\"orster transfer occurs due to the effect of plasmon-assisted amplification of electric fields inside the nanoscale assembly. Simultaneously, metal nanocrystals lead to an increase of energy losses during the F\"orster transfer process. We derive convenient equations for the energy transfer rates, photoluminescence intensities, and energy dissipation rates in the please of plasmon resonances. Because of strong dissipation due to the metal, an experimental observation of plasmon-enhanced F\"orster transfer requires special conditions. As possible experimental methods, we consider cw- and time-resolved photoluminescence studies and describe the conditions to observe plasmon-enhanced transfer. In particular, we show that the photoluminescence spectra should be carefully analyzed since the plasmon-enhanced F\"orster effect can appear together with strong exciton energy dissipation. Our results can be applied to a variety of experimental nanoscale systems.
