TL;DR: Perceived stress, social support, and partner's depression were significantly associated with depression in first-time mothers and fathers in mainland China.
Abstract: We compared the prevalence of depression in the postpartum period and its relationship with perceived stress and social support in first-time mothers and fathers. A cross-sectional study was conducted in mainland China with a convenience sample of 130 pairs of parents. Measures taken at 6-8 weeks after delivery included the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale, the Perceived Stress Scale, and the Social Support Rating Scale. Eighteen (13.8%) of the mothers and 14 (10.8%) of the fathers were suffering from depression. No signficant differences were found in their prevalence rates. Perceived stress, social support, and partner's depression were significantly associated with depression. These findings suggest counseling, support, and routine screening for depression should be provided to both mothers and fathers.

TL;DR: Covalent carbon nitride polymers were applied as metal-free robust catalysts for the inactivation of Escherichia coli K-12 under visible light illumination, demonstrating that the creation of antibacterial function on the surface of conjugated polymers has now become possible.

TL;DR: In this paper, Cacumen Platycladi extract was investigated for the biosynthesis of Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs) and the results showed that increasing the initial AgNO3 concentration at 30 or 60 °C increased the mean size and widened the size distribution of the AgNPs leading to red shift and broadening of the surface plasmon resonance absorption.
Abstract: Biosynthesis of Ag nanoparticles (AgNPs) by Cacumen Platycladi extract was investigated. The AgNPs were characterized by ultraviolet–visible absorption spectroscopy (UV–vis), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), selected-area electron diffraction (SAED), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The results showed that increasing the initial AgNO3 concentration at 30 or 60 °C increased the mean size and widened the size distribution of the AgNPs leading to red shift and broadening of the Surface Plasmon Resonance absorption. The conversion of silver ions was determined by atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) and to discuss the bioreductive mechanism, the reducing sugar, flavonoid, saccharide, protein contents in the extract, and the antioxidant activity were measured using 3,5-dinitrosalicylic acid colorimetric; Coomassie brilliant blue; phenol-sulfuric acid; rutin-based spectrophotometry method; and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical-scavenging assay methods. The results showed that the reducing sug...

TL;DR: In this article, a cadmium indium sulfide microsphere was used as an efficient photocatalyst in inactivation of Escherichia coli K-12 under visible light (VL) irradiation for the first time.
Abstract: New types of visible-light-driven photocatalysts with high activity for bacterial inactivation are needed to address the problems caused by outbreak of harmful microorganisms. In this study, cadmium indium sulfide (CdIn2S4) microsphere, which can be synthesized continuously by a facile ultrasonic spray pyrolysis method, was used as an efficient photocatalyst in inactivation of Escherichia coli K-12 under visible light (VL) irradiation for the first time. The as-prepared CdIn2S4 showed a micro-spherical morphology with diameter of 0.5–1.0 μm. It had an energy band gap of 2.02 eV and BET surface area of 34.8 m2/g. It was found that bacterial cells could also be effectively inactivated inside a partition system without the direct contact with the photocatalyst, which was attributed to the diffusible photon-generated hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) rather than hydroxyl radicals ( OH). Large amounts of H2O2 were produced from both conduction and valance bands with the involvement of superoxide ( O2−). The used CdIn2S4 could be easily recycled by the partition system without loss of activity. The destruction process of bacterial cells was from the cell wall to the intracellular components as confirmed by TEM study. In addition, the O2− and OH radicals were also detected in the CdIn2S4-VL system by ESR spin-trap with DMPO trapping technology.

TL;DR: Uniform graphitic carbon nitride nanorods were facilely obtained by a morphology-preserving strategy by templating a chiral mesostructured silica nanorod by demonstrating excellent photocatalytic capability in generating hydrogen from water even with a small specific surface area, compared with its mesoporous counterpart.
Abstract: Uniform graphitic carbon nitride nanorods (CNR) were facilely obtained by a morphology-preserving strategy by templating a chiral mesostructured silica nanorod. The hexagonal mesostructured pore structures of one-dimensional silica nanorods can provide nanoconfinement space for carbon nitride condensation to perfect layered structures. CNR demonstrated excellent photocatalytic capability in generating hydrogen from water even with a small specific surface area, compared with its mesoporous counterpart. For further application demonstration, the CNR was used for photocatalytic regeneration of NAD+ to NADH, the biological form of hydrogen. The in situ NADH regeneration system was further coupled with l-glutamate dehydrogenase for sustainable generation of l-glutamate from α-ketoglutarate. The high yield and high efficiency obtained here point a high-throughput and sustainable way for practical enzymatic applications.
