Abstract: Systems, methods, and devices for wireless communication. In one aspect, an apparatus for wireless communication is provided. The apparatus includes a receiver configured to receive a wireless signal comprising a packet. At least a portion of the wireless signal is configured to be received over a bandwidth lower than or equal to 1.25 MHz. The packet is formed from at least one orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) symbol comprising thirty-two tones. The thirty-two tones correspond to frequency subcarriers within the bandwidth. The thirty-two tones of the at least one OFDM symbol are allocated as: twenty-four data tones, two pilot tones, five guard tones, and one direct current (DC) tone. The apparatus includes a processor configured to evaluate the wireless signal. The processor includes a transform module configured to convert the at least one OFDM symbol into a frequency domain signal using a thirty-two point mode.

Abstract: The airborne radio communications system of the present invention enables an airborne radio to communicate with the ground based cellular radiotelephone system. The present invention also enables the ground based system to keep track of the location of the airborne radiotelephone and page it when a call from the ground based telephone system is received. The ground base station is connected to upward radiating antennas that form airborne cells. As the aircraft with the radio flies through the airborne cells, the airborne relay receives the signals from the base station and relays them to the radio. If the radio is transmitting signals, the relay transmits those signals, through the airborne cells, to the base station. As the aircraft moves from cell to cell, the radio is handed off to the next cell to maintain communications with the ground.

Abstract: An access terminal scans for nearby access points and maintains a candidate list of access point with which the access terminal may associate in the event the access terminal's communication with its current access point deteriorates for some reason. This search procedure may be performed in a proactive manner whereby the access terminal repeatedly performs scans and updates its list of candidate access points when it is powered on. In some aspects, the search procedure used by the access terminal may be based on a state of the wireless device. In addition, different states of the access terminal may be associated with different optimization criteria.

Abstract: This paper considers transmit antenna selection (TAS) and receive generalized selection combining (GSC) for se- cure communication in the multiple-input-multiple-output wire- tap channel, where confidential messages transmitted from an NA-antenna transmitter to an NB-antenna legitimate receiver are overheard by an NE-antenna eavesdropper. We assume that the main channel and the eavesdropper's channel undergo Nakagami-m fading with fading parameters mB and mE ,r e- spectively. In order to assess the secrecy performance, we present a new unifying framework for the average secrecy rate and the se- crecy outage probability. We first derive expressions for the prob- ability density function and the cumulative distribution function of the signal-to-noise ratio with TAS/GSC, from which we derive exact expressions for the average secrecy rate and the secrecy outage probability. We then derive compact expressions for the asymptotic average secrecy rate and the asymptotic secrecy outage probability for two distinct scenarios: 1) the legitimate receiver is located close to the transmitter, and 2) the legitimate receiver and the eavesdropper are located close to the transmitter. For these scenarios, we present new closed-form expressions for several key performance indicators: 1) the capacity slope and the power offset of the asymptotic average secrecy rate, and 2) the secrecy diversity order and the secrecy array gain of the asymptotic secrecy outage probability. For the first scenario, we confirm that the capacity slope is one and the secrecy diversity order is mBNBNA .F or the second scenario, we confirm that the capacity slope and the secrecy diversity order collapse to zero.

Abstract: In this paper we will present a low-phase-noise wide-tuning-range oscillator suitable for scaled CMOS processes. It switches between the two resonant modes of a high-order LC resonator that consists of two identical LC tanks coupled by capacitor and transformer. The mode switching method does not add lossy switches to the resonator and thus doubles frequency tuning range without degrading phase noise performance. Moreover, the coupled resonator leads to 3 dB lower phase noise than a single LC tank, which provides a way of achieving low phase noise in scaled CMOS process. Finally, the novel way of using inductive and capacitive coupling jointly decouples frequency separation and tank impedances of the two resonant modes, and makes it possible to achieve balanced performance. The proposed structure is verified by a prototype in a low power 65 nm CMOS process, which covers all cellular bands with a continuous tuning range of 2.5-5.6 GHz and meets all stringent phase noise specifications of cellular standards. It uses a 0.6 V power supply and achieves excellent phase noise figure-of-merit (FoM) of 192.5 dB at 3.7 GHz and >; 188 dB across the entire tuning range. This demonstrates the possibility of achieving low phase noise and wide tuning range at the same time in scaled CMOS processes.
