TL;DR: In this paper, the arrival times of transmissions received at a remote terminal from a number of base stations were measured in the time period between updates of a reference oscillator used for the measurements.
Abstract: Techniques to more accurately measure the arrival times of transmissions received at a remote terminal from a number of base stations. In one aspect, unassigned finger processors are used to process and measure the arrival times of transmissions from base stations not in the active set. In another aspect, if no finger processors are available for assignment, the arrival times can be measured in the time period between updates of a reference oscillator used for the measurements. In accordance with a method for determining a position of a remote terminal, a first set ofone or more base stations in active communication with the remote terminal is identified and each base station in the first set is assigned at least one finger processor. A second set of one or more base stations not in active communication with the remote terminal is also identified and an available finger processor is assigned to each of at least one base station in the second set. A (signal arrival) time measurement is then provided for further processing. To improve accuracy, the measurements can be performed within a narrow time window.

TL;DR: In this article, a path update may occur in response to a change in network topology or a traffic loading condition (e.g., congestion or saturation of a link in the current path).
Abstract: A network condition prompts a hybrid device to select a new path for a packet stream. A path update may occur in response to a change in network topology or a traffic loading condition (e.g., congestion or saturation of a link in the current path). Path selections may be made at each hybrid device in the path from a source hybrid device to a destination hybrid device. A path update procedure may be dependent upon path selection procedures that are optimized for a hybrid network in which multiple hybrid devices may be utilized for a particular path. Path update for load balancing may be dependent upon whether a packet stream is elastic or non-elastic.

TL;DR: In this article, a satellite navigation subsystem for assigning hauling vehicles to freight loads within a freight transportation system is described. But the system is not suitable for the handling of a large number of vehicles.
Abstract: A system and method for assigning hauling vehicles to freight loads within a freight transportation system is disclosed herein. The system includes a satellite navigation subsystem for providing vehicle and load position data useable to determine the locations of each hauling vehicle and freight load. The position data may also be utilized to determine a set of deadhead distances required to be traversed by ones of the hauling vehicles unencumbered with freight loads while en route to load pick-up locations. Each unencumbered tractor vehicle is then efficiently matched with an available freight load in accordance with the compiled sets of deadhead distances and a set of potential pick-up times. Objectives such as punctual load pick-up and delivery, full utilization of available tractor vehicles, and maintaining scheduled driver home-base times of arrival may be achieved through "relay" operations. The term "relay" refers to the process by which an in-transit load is disengaged from a first tractor vehicle and made available at a designated relay location. The disengaged load is then engaged by a second tractor vehicle which becomes available in the vicinity of the relay location within a predefined relay window. In a preferred implementation the loads matched to selected pairs of tractor vehicles may also be exchanged, or "swapped", at a set of swap locations so as to minimize a cost function.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors propose a method for providing and receiving venue level transmissions and services, including discovery of a venue specific transmission by receiving an overhead signal from a non-venue network, extracting information for receiving the venue-specific transmission from the overhead signal, and tuning to receive the venue specific transmissions based on the extracted information.
Abstract: A venue-cast system and method for providing and receiving venue level transmissions and services, including discovery of a venue specific transmission by receiving an overhead signal from a non-venue network, extracting information for receiving the venue specific transmission from the overhead signal, and tuning to receive the venue specific transmission based on the extracted information The venue level transmission may be provided and received in a manner that does not prevent an access terminal from receiving a local area or wide area transmission

TL;DR: In this paper, a control channel used for transmitting control information is partitioned into a plurality of sub-channels each of which is operated at a specific data rate, and one of the subchannels is selected based on one or more selection criteria for transmission control information from an access point to the respective user terminal.
Abstract: According to one aspect of the invention, a method is provided in which a control channel used for transmitting control information is partitioned into a plurality of subchannels each of which is operated at a specific data rate. For each of one or more user terminals, one of the subchannels is selected based on one or more selection criteria for transmitting control information from an access point to the respective user terminal. Control information is transmitted from the access point to a user terminal on a particular subchannel selected for the respective user terminal. At the user terminal, one or more subchannels are decoded to obtain control information designated for the user terminal.
