Abstract: In general, techniques are described for grouping audio objects into clusters. In some examples, a device for audio signal processing comprises a cluster analysis module configured to group, based on spatial information for each of N audio objects, a plurality of audio objects that includes the N audio objects into L clusters, where L is less than N, wherein the cluster analysis module is configured to receive information from at least one of a transmission channel, a decoder, and a renderer, and wherein a maximum value for L is based on the information received. The device also comprises a downmix module configured to mix the plurality of audio objects into L audio streams, and a metadata downmix module configured to produce, based on the spatial information and the grouping, metadata that indicates spatial information for each of the L audio streams.

Abstract: 5G New Radio (NR) is envisioned to support three broad categories of services: evolved mobile broadband (eMBB), ultra-reliable and low-latency communications (URLLC), and massive machine-type communications (mMTC). The URLLC services refer to future applications that require secure data communications from one end to another with ultra-high reliability and deadline-based low latency requirements. This type of quality-of-service is vastly different from that of traditional mobile broadband applications. In this paper, we discuss the systems design principles to enable the URLLC services in 5G. Theoretical queueing analysis and system-level simulations are provided to support these systems design choices, many of which have been considered as work items in the 3GPP Release 15 standards, which will be the first release for 5G NR.

Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for improved position determination of a device using multiple pseudo range measurements from transmitting sources at known locations, such as GPS satellites. A plurality of pseudo range measurements for each transmitting source are processed together to obtain a simplified maximum likelihood estimate for the pseudo range for that transmitting source at a common reference time. The processed pseudo range estimates for all transmitting sources are then combined using conventional position determination algorithms. This technique facilitates removal of raw measurement outliers prior to position determination, which results in improved (i.e., more accurate) position fixes of the device. In addition, improved measurement integrity monitoring of the pseudo range measurements is a feature of this invention.

Each of the first and second communication modules is configured to use signals that propagate between the first and second transmission media.

Abstract: We introduce a new approach to proving that a sequence of deterministic linear codes achieves capacity on an erasure channel under maximum a posteriori decoding. Rather than relying on the precise structure of the codes, our method exploits code symmetry. In particular, the technique applies to any sequence of linear codes where the blocklengths are strictly increasing, the code rates converge, and the permutation group of each code is doubly transitive. In other words, we show that symmetry alone implies near-optimal performance. An important consequence of this result is that a sequence of Reed–Muller codes with increasing blocklength and converging rate achieves capacity. This possibility has been suggested previously in the literature but it has only been proven for cases where the limiting code rate is 0 or 1. Moreover, these results extend naturally to all affine-invariant codes and, thus, to extended primitive narrow-sense BCH codes. This also resolves, in the affirmative, the existence question for capacity-achieving sequences of binary cyclic codes. The primary tools used in the proof are the sharp threshold property for symmetric monotone Boolean functions and the area theorem for extrinsic information transfer functions.
