Abstract: A method and apparatus for efficiently transmitting location assistance information to a mobile communication device over a control channel with a minimal impact on the capacity of the control channel. A position location server provides a difference between satellite locations which have been computed using Almanac data and then Ephemeris data. Sending only the difference between the locations and satellite clock corrections computed using the two different data types, the total amount of information to be transmitted to a mobile communication device is significantly reduced. Furthermore, by providing rate of change information, the method and apparatus allows the location assistance information to remain valid for a relatively long time after it is has been received by the mobile communication device.

Abstract: Described are various mechanisms and techniques for influencing or controlling a content update schedule for a content-based software application on a mobile device. A content server issues one or more commands to the mobile device that establish a content update schedule for the mobile device. The mobile device then performs content update sessions with the content server based on that schedule. During any one or more refresh sessions, the content server delivers another command to establish a new content update schedule. This system provides the advantage of allowing the content server to regulate how frequently the mobile device retrieves new content.

Abstract: Techniques for centralized control of relay operation are described. In an aspect, a designated network entity (e.g., a base station or a network controller) may control the operation of relay stations within its coverage area. The network entity may select certain user equipments (UEs) to be relay UEs that can serve as relay stations for other UEs, e.g., based on pathloss between the UEs and a base station, the locations of the UEs, battery power levels of the UEs, fairness considerations, etc. The network entity may also select a specific relay UE to serve as a relay station for a client UE desiring to communicate with a base station, e.g., based on pilot measurements from relay UEs for the client UE. The network entity may also control transmission of discovery pilots by relay UEs and/or client UEs for relay detection.

Abstract: Quadratically constrained quadratic programs (QCQPs) have a wide range of applications in signal processing and wireless communications. Non-convex QCQPs are NP-hard in general. Existing approaches relax the non-convexity using semi-definite relaxation (SDR) or linearize the non-convex part and solve the resulting convex problem. However, these techniques are seldom successful in even obtaining a feasible solution when the QCQP matrices are indefinite. In this letter, a new feasible point pursuit successive convex approximation (FPP-SCA) algorithm is proposed for non-convex QCQPs. FPP-SCA linearizes the non-convex parts of the problem as conventional SCA does, but adds slack variables to sustain feasibility, and a penalty to ensure slacks are sparingly used. When FPP-SCA is successful in identifying a feasible point of the non-convex QCQP, convergence to a Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) point is thereafter ensured. Simulations show the effectiveness of our proposed algorithm in obtaining feasible and near-optimal solutions, significantly outperforming existing approaches.
