TL;DR: The authors reviewed four books on globalization and education, focusing specifically on cultural globalization, and examined how each of the books deploys and develops a theory of globalization in relation to the topic of education.
Abstract: This paper reviews four books on globalization and education. It begins with a brief overview of theories of globalization, focusing specifically on cultural globalization. The paper then moves on to examine how each of the books deploys and develops a theory of globalization in relation to the topic of education. It also examines the utopian vision of education outlined within the books, as well all as the methods used to undertake research in an era of globalization.

TL;DR: In this article, a non-clinical sample of 586 mothers and 615 fathers completed the Parenting Sense of Competence (PSOC) scale and provided normative data against which at-risk groups can be compared.
Abstract: Background The Parenting Sense of Competence (PSOC) scale is a commonly used measure of parental self‐efficacy. Previous investigations of the factor structure of this instrument have been unsatisfactory and there is no adequate normative group against which at‐risk groups can be compared. Methods A non‐clinical sample of 586 mothers and 615 fathers completed the PSOC. Results Factor analysis produced three acceptable factors (Satisfaction, Efficacy, Interest) that accounted for 47.3% and 50.1% of the variance for mothers and fathers respectively. Mothers reported higher efficacy than fathers, and fathers reported greater satisfaction with the parenting role than did mothers. Conclusion The PSOC contains three useful factors that reflect satisfaction with the parental role, parenting efficacy and interest in parenting. The paper provides normative data against which at‐risk groups can be compared.

TL;DR: In this article, the durability properties of concrete containing nano-silica at dosages of 0.3% and 0.9% were investigated, and the pore size distribution indicated that the large capillary pores were refined by the nano silica, due to the combined contribution of the nano-filler effect and the pozzolanic reaction.

TL;DR: Wang et al. as discussed by the authors investigated the association between board characteristics and the company's corporate social responsibility (CSR) assurance decision in China and found that firms with a large board size, more female directors, and separation of CEO and chairman positions are more likely to engage in CSR assurance.
Abstract: This paper investigates the association between board characteristics and the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) assurance decision in China. By examining 2054 firm-years of Chinese listed companies with CSR reports from 2008 to 2012, we find that firms with a large board size, more female directors, and separation of CEO and chairman positions are more likely to engage in CSR assurance. Gender diversity also influences the CSR assurance provider choice. However, board independence and overseas background of the CEO do not affect the CSR assurance decision. Inconsistent with our prediction, firms with foreign directors are less likely to engage in voluntary CSR assurance. In summary, this research provides in-depth insights into the determinants of Chinese firms’ voluntary CSR assurance.
