TL;DR: In this article, the problem of two equal collinear cracks weakening a poled transversely isotropic piezo-electro-magnetic plate under semi-permeable electromagnetic boundary conditions on the crack faces was formulated employing Stroh formalism and solved using a complex variable technique.
Abstract: The problem of two equal collinear cracks weakening a poled transversely isotropic piezo-electro-magnetic plate is addressed under semi-permeable electro-magnetic boundary conditions on the crack faces. The problem is formulated employing Stroh formalism and solved using a complex variable technique. Closed form analytical expressions are derived for various fracture parameters. An illustrative numerical case study is presented for poled BaTiO3 − CoFe2O4 ceramic cracked plate to study the effect of prescribed electric load, magnetic load, and inter-crack distance on fracture parameters. Moreover, a comparative study is done of volume fraction, impermeable, and semi-permeable boundary conditions on fracture parameters.

01 Sep 2016TL;DR: The experimental results show the supremacy of the proposed method over conventional and state-of-art techniques.
Abstract: This paper introduce a new concept of satellite image resolution and contrast enhancement technique when the image is suffered from the noise and filtering it by various types of filters then the image is processed by discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and singular value decomposition (SVD) to get new modified contrast and resolution enhanced image. Satellite images are used in many applications such as geosciences studies, astronomy, and geographical information systems. Two most important quality factors of images are contrast and resolution, here this technique decomposes the input filtered image into the four frequency sub-bands by using DWT and then the high frequency subband images and input image have been interpolated along with this the technique also estimates the singular value matrix of the low–low sub band of histogram equalized image and input filtered image then normalize both singular value matrices to obtain brightness enhanced image. In, order to get the new image of better contrast and resolution all these subbands are combined using inverse DWT. The following procedure is done with different types of noises and different types of filters then they are compared with conventional image equalization techniques such as general histogram equalization (GHE), local histogram equalization (LHE) and also from state-of-the-art technique which is singular value equalization (SVE) and Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) and the experimental results show the supremacy of the proposed method over conventional and state-of-art techniques.

01 Apr 2017TL;DR: A review of smart grid, along with its various building blocks is presented in this paper, where Australia, Canada, China, Germany, India, and Japan are comparatively studied, for smart grid development and implementation.
Abstract: Smart grid is the future of electricity that can revolutionize the way present electricity grids are monitored and controlled. Smart grid uses highly automated and digitized operation for real time applications. Smart grid is in its developing stage in India. National Smart Grid Mission (NSGM) was launched by Ministry of Power, that plans and monitors policies and programs for development and deployment of smart grid in India. Total of 14 pilot projects and 1 smart city project are announced so far for smart grid development in India. This paper reviews smart grid, along with its various building blocks. Australia, Canada, China, Germany, India, and Japan are comparatively studied, for smart grid development and implementation. Smart grid projects undergoing in these countries along with their technological developments are also described. The driving factors for smart grid development in these countries and India are summarized.

01 Dec 2016TL;DR: In this article, an optimization of hybrid energy system to supply electrical load of a residential house located at Jahazpur, Bhilwara in East-South region of Rajasthan, India.
Abstract: This paper presents optimization of hybrid energy system to supply electrical load of a residential house located at Jahazpur, Bhilwara in East-South region of Rajasthan, India. The electrical load of the house is calculated by energy consumption of various electrical appliances used and supplied by hybrid energy system includes Solar Photo Voltaic (PV), Small Wind Turbine (WT), Battery, and Diesel Generator system. The modeling and optimization of hybrid energy system done using HOMER (Hybrid Optimization Model for Electric Renewable) developed by NREL (National Renewable Energy Laboratory). HOMER gives the optimum configuration of hybrid energy system for minimizing the Net Present Cost (NPC) of the system. Optimized system configuration further analysed by using RETScreen software tools developed by ministry of natural resources, Canada. The various analysis done in RETScreen includes Net Present Value (NPV) analysis, payback period analysis, internal rate of return (IRR) analysis, and effect of tax and subsidies.

TL;DR: In this article, the performance of U-shaped, slinky-coil, and helical coil pipe layouts of an EATHE system is compared numerically using ANSYS FLUENT 15.0.
Abstract: Earth air tunnel heat exchanger (EATHE) is a capable and quite simple passive technique which may be utilized for space cooling/heating using the constant temperature of underground subsoil. However, it could not gain much attraction as a heating/cooling system as it requires larger trench lengths to accommodate longer pipes. Larger trench lengths involve huge excavation cost and a sufficiently large piece of land. The length of the trench needed can be reduced substantially by adopting a proper pipe layout. In the present study, the performance of U-shaped, slinky-coil, and helical-coil pipe layouts of an EATHE system is compared numerically using ANSYS FLUENT 15.0. Results reveal that the temperature drop and heat transfer rate per unit trench length are higher in the slinky-coil pipe layout than in U-shaped and helical-coil pipe layouts. After 12 h of continuous operation, the effectiveness of the EATHE system with U-shaped, slinky-coil, and helical-coil pipe layouts is obtained as 0.60, 0.80, and 0.78, respectively. The study reveals that the selection of pipe layout for the EATHE system mainly depends on temperature drop EATHE is capable of giving, heat transfer rate, pumping power required, and ease of fabrication and installation as all these factors directly affect the initial and recurring capital investment for the EATHE system.
