28 Jan 2013TL;DR: In this paper, a dual band double square patch with 2-bridges printed microstrip patch antenna is presented, which operates at center frequencies of 2.4GHz and 9.7GHz.
Abstract: A dual band double square patch with 2-bridges printed microstrip patch antenna is presented in this paper. The ntenna operates at centre frequencies of 2.4GHz and 9.7GHz which can be used for wireless local area networks and radio navigation or radio location applications in S-band and X-band respectively at low powers. The dual band antenna has good simulated return loss and bidirectional radiation characteristics. The electromagnetic (EM) simulation software is used for the simulation. The antenna is designed on FR-4 substrate with dielectric constant of 4.4 and thickness of 1.6 millimeter(mm). It is fed with 50Ω coaxial feed line and the total size of antenna is 40×40 mm2. The antenna has return loss lower than -10dB, compact structure, ease of designing, and low manufacturing cost. Two square patches are designed to obtain dual band operation. The larger patch resonates at 2.4GHz and the smaller patch resonates at 9.7GHz respectively. This antenna can be used for wireless local area network (WLAN) and radio navigation applications.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used four different empirical relations for skin friction coefficient, power developed/consumed by Flettner rotor on a ship is calculated for different values of wind speed and ship speed.
Abstract: Flow over a rotating cylinder is a complicated phenomenon. Many researchers studied boundary layer, for both laminar and turbulent flow and reported instabilities. Because of the difficulty in the determination of skin friction coefficient for flow over a rotating cylinder, the experimental and computational values obtained by different researchers are also widely not in agreement. The flow over a rotating cylinder has many applications such as in ship propulsion using Flettner rotor, motion of a missile, etc. Flettner rotor can be used as an auxiliary power source for ship propulsion. In this paper, using four different empirical relations for skin friction coefficient, power developed/consumed by Flettner rotor on a ship is calculated for different values of wind speed and ship speed. It is found that though, these empirical relations are differently proposed by authors, the numerical values obtained for power generated by Flettner rotor for ship propulsion using these four different formulae didn’t have significant difference.

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of regression on nonlinear magnetization curve has been discussed while estimation of magnetization reactance by employing regression functions to compute performance variables of SEIG.
Abstract: Background/Objectives: This paper aims to evaluate performance characteristics of standalone Self-Excited Induction Generator (SEIG) under varying load condition. Methods/Statistical Analysis: Prime mover speed, excitation capacitance and load significantly influence the performance of SEIG. Due to nonlinear magnetization, estimation of nonlinear magnetic characteristics involves clumsy mathematical computation. It gives an opportunity to model nonlinear magnetization characteristics suitable to obtain minimum impedance and optimal capacitance for improved performance. Findings: The effect of regression on nonlinear magnetization curve has been discussed while estimation of magnetization reactance by employing regression functions. It provides optimal value of magnetization reactance to compute performance variables of SEIG. Solution techniques are applied to calculate frequency and excitation capacitance and compared their results. Regression functions with solution techniques have been applied on comprehensive data of induction machines to exhibit validity and accuracy of proposed scheme. Applications/Improvements: The proposed techniques reveal lower capacitance requirement as compared to existing piece- wise linearization model.

01 Dec 2016TL;DR: A triple band-notched ultrawideband (UWB) trapezoidal shape microstrip-fed patch antenna on FR4 substrate is proposed and results are experimentally demonstrated over the UWB operation.
Abstract: A triple band-notched ultrawideband (UWB) trapezoidal shape microstrip-fed patch antenna on FR4 substrate is proposed. Notch stop bands are achievedaround the WLAN (5.15–5.25 GHz), WiMAX (3.3–3.8GHz) and X-band (7.9–8.4 GHz) by etching one elliptic single split-ring resonator (ESSRR) from radiating patch and by placing two squaresingle split-ring resonators(SSSRRs) of different dimensions near feedline, respectively. Results are experimentally demonstrated over the UWB operation.
