TL;DR: In this article, the intrinsic strain effect on critical current, Ic in Cu-stabilized GdBCO coated conductor (CC) tapes under bending and uniaxial tension has been investigated.
Abstract: The intrinsic strain effect on critical current, Ic in Cu-stabilized GdBCO coated conductor (CC) tapes under bending and uniaxial tension has been investigated. The bending deformation tolerance of Ic in GdBCO CC tapes, fabricated by reactive co-evaporation by deposition and reaction (RCE-DR) with substrate materials of Hastelloy and stainless steel and fabricated by the metal organic chemical vapour deposition (MOCVD) process was evaluated. The intrinsic strain response of Ic under bending was found to be independent of the fabrication process, the substrate material and the geometry of the sample. For samples with a Hastelloy substrate, the intrinsic strain response of Ic/Icmax under bending was well correlated with those under uniaxial tension. However, for samples with a stainless steel substrate, these had a large strain sensitivity for Ic under uniaxial tension even though this showed a much higher irreversible strain limit up to 1.05%.

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of Biology Learning Station Strategy (BLISS) to the academic achievement and attitude of junior high school science students were evaluated. But, the results showed that the students' science achievement and their attitude towards Biology had not significantly improved after the intervention.
Abstract: Science education faces monumental changes in terms of curriculum design and approach brought about by the challenges of globalization and diversifying educational landscapes. This study sought to test the effects of Biology Learning Station Strategy (BLISS) to the academic achievement and attitude of junior high school Science students. This action research utilized a within-group pretest-posttest experimental design involving 28 Grade 10 Science students of a government-run secondary school in Central Luzon, Philippines. The study found out that prior to the intervention, the junior high school Science students were performing below average in terms of Science achievement and have slightly positive attitude towards Biology. After the intervention, the students’ Science achievement and their attitude towards Biology had improved. BLISS was found to be an effective differentiated learning strategy in improving the Science achievement and attitude towards Biology of students. There was a positive correlation between Science achievement and attitude towards Biology.

TL;DR: The Proton: Workbook in Physical Science was validated by experts and students and piloted among college freshmen as discussed by the authors, which is recommended for use as instructional material for the core course in senior high school.
Abstract: Senior High School (SHS) covers the last two years of the K to 12 program. In SHS, students will go through a core curriculum and subjects under a track of their choice. One of the core subjects is Physical Science which requires 80 hours per semester. There is still a dearth of reference materials prepared which are aligned to the SHS competencies. Hence, the researchers developed a workbook to partly address the dilemma. The Proton: Workbook in Physical Science was validated by experts and students and piloted among college freshmen. The expert validators “strongly agree” that the developed instructional material possesses adequacy, coherence, appropriateness and usefulness as indicated in the overall mean of 3.90 (sd=0.06). Likewise, the students rated the workbook to be very much acceptable based on the overall mean of 3.79 (sd=0.39). The developed workbook is recommended for use as instructional material for the core course in senior high school. It is further recommended that instructors should also develop workbook in other science core courses in the K12 senior high school curriculum.

TL;DR: In this article, a qualitative narrative inquiry explored the perspectives of young teachers in the Philippines on their reasons why they are teaching, and 10 major themes ultimately emerged to describe the reasons of engagement in teaching.
Abstract: It may not be a profitable profession but teaching has been regarded as the noblest mission, vocation and profession which contributes mainly to the non-material satisfaction of individuals who are engaged in it. This qualitative narrative inquiry explored the perspectives of young teachers in the Philippines on their reasons why they are teaching. Many studies have focused mainly on the motivation of teachers to teach but there were only few studies conducted which tried to establish the reasons why young teachers chose the profession. A total of 31 young Filipino teachers were purposively selected as participants of the study. The participants (aged 21 to 30) were asked to write a short narrative on why they teach. The narratives were scrutinized to generate themes and significant statements. Ten major themes ultimately emerged to describe the reasons of young teachers’ engagement in teaching. The young Filipino teachers cited that they teach to bring positive change, prepare students for life, serve as an inspiration, promote values, transform lives, teach for passion, set a higher bar of excellence in education, cure social problems, share knowledge and skills, and enable others’ dreams. The study, thus claim that there were various significant reasons why these educators teach. A conceptual framework was crystallized to depict the reasons why Filipino young teachers teach. Implications of the findings to curriculum enhancement of Teaching Profession course in the teacher education program, to the nationally-validated PPST, and the formation program for young teachers were established in the study.

TL;DR: In this article, the extent of employability of science education graduates from 2008-2018 in a state university in the Philippines was determined by measuring the adequacy and relevance of the science education program.
Abstract: This descriptive research determined the extent of employability of science education graduates from 2008-2018 in a state university in the Philippines. The study also ascertained the graduates’ retrospective evaluation of the science education program in the aspects of adequacy and relevance. A total of 49 purposively selected graduates responded to the online survey questionnaire. Results revealed that there is a very high employability rate of the graduates of the university. Their educational experience and skills learned are very relevant in their current workplace. They evaluated the 10 program areas as good and indicated that the program outcomes are adequate and relevant. These graduates also suggested that content and pedagogy among pre-service teachers be enhanced. A curriculum review may then be considered for better alignment of the program to the demands of the 21st century learning landscape and to the fourth industrial revolution to produce industry-ready and globally-competitive science educators.
