01 Jan 1999TL;DR: In this article, low-thrust cold-gas propulsion systems have the potential to provide orbital maneuvering capability for small, micro- and even nano-satellites, each specific mission where cold gas thrusters will be used places a unique set of requirements on the system.
Abstract: : Due to their simplicity, low-thrust cold-gas propulsion systems have the potential to provide orbital maneuvering capability for small, micro- and even nano-satellites. Each specific mission where cold gas thrusters will be used places a unique set of requirements on the system. For example, micro-spacecraft with masses of 1 - 50 kg, will require thrust levels for typical orbital maintenance maneuvers of 0.1 - 1OmN.

29 Aug 2010TL;DR: An initial challenge to use a single stationary 360-degree lidar sensor to detect and track people moving through out a scene in real-time is described.
Abstract: Advances in lidar technology, in particular 360-degreelidar sensors, create new opportunities to augment andimprove traditional surveillance systems. This paperdescribes an initial challenge to use a single stationary360-degree lidar sensor to detect and track people movingthroughout a scene in real-time. The depicted approachfocuses on overcoming three primary challenges inherentin any lidar tracker: classification and matching errorsbetween multiple human targets, segmentation errorsbetween humans and fixed objects in the scene, andsegmentation errors between targets that are very closetogether.

TL;DR: This is a summary paper describing the processing of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data using digital correlation algorithms, starting with a simple single filter mechanization and proceeding through more complex processing algorithms.
Abstract: This is a summary paper describing the processing of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data using digital correlation algorithms. Fundamental SAR theory as it applies to the various SAR modes, namely, strip mapping, spotlight mapping, and Doppler beam sharpened mapping, is described and a baseline design applicable to all SAR modes is presented. Digital processor design is developed, starting with a simple single filter mechanization and proceeding through more complex processing algorithms. Prefilter design is discussed, as is the more advanced processing algorithms, namely, multiple parallel prefilters, two-stage correlation, and FFT processing. The primary processor tradeoff is increased functional complexity versus reduced arithmetic and memory requirements. For high-resolution applications, the arithmetic requirements can be reduced by an order of magnitude or more by implementing the more advanced processing algorithms.

25 Oct 1978TL;DR: In this article, a pair of dielectric support structures are provided, each one having a pattern of electrical conductors for interconnecting integrated circuit devices disposed thereon, each of the conductors having end portions terminating into a plurality of contact pads disposed on a first surface of the support structures.
Abstract: An integrated circuit device package is disclosed wherein a pair of dielectric support structures are provided, each one having a pattern of electrical conductors for interconnecting integrated circuit devices disposed thereon. The electrical conductors have end portions terminating into a plurality of contact pads disposed on a first surface of the support structures. A first one of the pair of support structures has corresponding contact pads on a second, opposite surface of the support structure, each one of the contact pads on the first surface being electrically connected to a corresponding one of the contact pads on the second surface. A dielectric spacer having a plurality of electrical contact pins is disposed between the pair of support structures. One end of each pin is electrically connected to a corresponding one of the contact pads disposed on the second surface of the first one of such structures, and the other end of such contact pin is electrically connected to a corresponding one of the contact pins disposed on the first surface of the second one of the structures. The contact pins are relatively short and thereby provide a relatively short electrical interconnect for the integrated circuit devices, thereby reducing parasitic capacitances normally associated with electrical interconnects.

01 May 2014TL;DR: In this paper, a gas turbine engine has a fan, first and second compressor stages, and a gear train, such that the fan and first compressor stage rotate in the same direction.
Abstract: A gas turbine engine has a fan, first and second compressor stages, first and second turbine stages. The first turbine stage drives the second compressor stage as a high spool. The second turbine stage drives the first compressor stage as part of a low spool. A gear train drives the fan with the low spool, such that the fan and first compressor stage rotate in the same direction. The high spool operates at higher pressures than the low spool. A lubrication system is also disclosed.
