Abstract: Next-generation wireless (NextG) involves the concept that the next generation of wireless communications will be a major move toward ubiquitous wireless communications systems and seamless high-quality wireless services. This article presents the concepts and technologies involved, including possible innovations in architectures, spectrum allocation, and utilization, in radio communications, networks, and services and applications. These include dynamic and adaptive systems and technologies that provide a new paradigm for spectrum assignment and management, smart resource management, dynamic and fast adaptive multilayer approaches, smart radio, and adaptive networking. Technologies involving adaptive and highly efficient modulation, coding, multiple access, media access, network organization, and networking that can provide ultraconnectivity at high data rates with effective QoS for Next Gare are also described.

Abstract: The process and apparatus for extracting the products of kerogen in situ from an oil shale body by supplying energy selectively to the kerogen by high frequency electric fields in the frequency range between 100 kilohertz and 1000 megahertz at an intensity which heats the kerogen to a temperature range between 250° C. and 500° C. to allow pyrolysis of the kerogen prior to substantial heat transfer to the surrounding mineral portions of the oil shale. A plurality of groups of spaced radiators produce the electric fields for heating the kerogen. A dipole radiator in the subsurface formation is supplied with electromagnetic energy through a transmission line from an energy generator on the surface.

Abstract: The analysis system is a collection, configuration and integration of software programs that reside on multiple interconnected computer platforms. The software, less computer operating systems, is a combination of sensor, analysis, data conversion, and visualization programs. The hardware platforms consist of several different types of interconnected computers, which share the software programs, data files, and visualization programs via a Local Area Network (LAN). This collection and integration of software and the migration to a single computer platform results in an approach to LAN/WAN monitoring in either a passive and/or active mode. The architecture permits digital data input from external sensors for analysis, display and correlation with data and displays derived from four major software concept groups. These are: Virus Computer Code Detection; Analysis of Computer Source and Executable Code; Dynamic Monitoring of Data Communication Networks; 3-D Visualization and Animation of Data.

Abstract: The elastic constants ${c}_{11}$, ${c}_{12}$, and ${c}_{44}$ of single-crystal strontium titanate have been measured as a function of temperature from 300 to 108\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}K by determining the velocity of an ultrasonic wave. At 108\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}K the strontium titanate undergoes a phase transition to a tetragonal structure which causes a marked change of the elastic properties and the appearance of a domain structure, but does not cause a discontinuity of the dielectric constant. The phase transition is free of hysteresis. The dependence of the elastic properties on a dc electric field parallel to the velocity of sound propagation was measured and found independent of the dielectric properties. The implications of this result are discussed.
