Abstract: Presents the design, implementation, and performance of Rensselaer's third-generation adaptive current tomograph, ACT3. This system uses 32 current sources and 32 phase-sensitive voltmeters to make a 32-electrode system that is capable of applying arbitrary spatial patterns of current. The instrumentation provides 16 b precision on both the current values and the real and reactive voltage readings and can collect the data for a single image in 133 ms. Additionally, the instrument is able to automatically calibrate its voltmeters and current sources and adjust the current source output impedance under computer control. The major system components are discussed in detail and performance results are given. Images obtained using stationary agar targets and a moving pendulum in a phantom as well as in vivo resistivity profiles showing human respiration are shown. >

Abstract: Epitaxial layers of have been grown in an atmospheric organometallic CVD system, for a wide variety of gas phase reactant partial pressures and over a broad range of temperature (450°–1050°C). The growth rates for (100), , (110), (11l)Ga, and (11l)As substrates are reported as functions of temperature and gas composition. Three distinct temperature dependent regions of growth are identified, corresponding to a mid‐temperature mass transport limited range, a low‐temperature kinetic controlled regime, and a high‐temperature desorption limited region. The growth rate is studied as a function of the growth parameters and substrate orientation, and is related to the decomposition of the two reactants trimethylgallium and arsine. A model for the epitaxial growth of by the organometallic process is proposed, based on these findings.

Abstract: This paper presents fault-tolerant control techniques for five-phase permanent-magnet motors with trapezoidal back electromotive forces under various open-circuit conditions. The proposed fault-tolerant control methods use only the fundamental and third-harmonic current components for the excitation of the healthy stator phases. The control techniques are developed by applying a concept that correlates the currents in the healthy phases based on their symmetry in space with respect to the fault in a machine. Optimum solutions under the single-phase open-circuit fault condition and double-phase open-circuit fault conditions are presented. The presented solutions are derived to increase the average output torque while reducing the torque pulsations and satisfying the zero-neutral-current constraint. Detailed experimental results are presented for the verification of the proposed solutions.

Abstract: Eros is a very elongated (34 kilometers by 11 kilometers by 11 kilometers) asteroid, most of the surface of which is saturated with craters smaller than 1 kilometer in diameter. The largest crater is 5.5 kilometers across, but there is a 10-kilometer saddle-like depression with attributes of a large degraded crater. Surface lineations, both grooves and ridges, are prominent on Eros; some probably exploit planes of weakness produced by collisions on Eros and/or its parent body. Ejecta blocks (30 to 100 meters across) are abundant but not uniformly distributed over the surface. Albedo variations are restricted to the inner walls of certain craters and may be related to downslope movement of regolith. On scales of 200 meters to 1 kilometer, Eros is more bland in terms of color variations than Gaspra or Ida. Spectra (800 to 2500 nanometers) are consistent with an ordinary chondrite composition for which the measured mean density of 2.67 ± 0.1 grams per cubic centimeter implies internal porosities ranging from about 10 to 30 percent.
