TL;DR: Fresh as well as fried Palm weevil collected from port Harcourt metropolis in River State, Nigeria were analysed for associated microrganisms and found to belong to four bacterial genera-Bacillus, Staphyioeoceus, Serratia and Enterobacter.
Abstract: Fresh as well as fried Palm weevil (Rhynehophorus Phoenicis) lervae collected from port Harcourt metropolis in River State, Nigeria were analysed for associated microrganisms. These were found to belong to four bacterial genera-Bacillus, Staphyioeoceus, Serratia and Enterobacter. However, Spp of Bacillus and Staphyiocoecus which were predominant and most actwely involved organisms probably due to unhygenic handling, could be toxic and health hazord.

TL;DR: Four‐dimensional (4D) seismic exploration, an improved geophysical technique for hydrocarbon‐data acquisition, was applied for the first time in the Nembe Creek prospect area of Nigeria and affected soils were slightly alkaline in situ when wet, but extremely acidic when dry.
Abstract: Four-dimensional (4D) seismic exploration, an improved geophysical technique for hydrocarbon-data acquisition, was applied for the first time in the Nembe Creek prospect area of Nigeria. The affected soils were slightly alkaline in situ when wet (pH 7.2), but extremely acidic when dry (pH 3.0). The organic carbon content (4.6-26.8%) and other physicochemical properties of soils and water (N, P, and heavy-metal contents, etc.) were higher than the baseline values obtained in 2001 before seismic profiling. Most values also exceeded the baseline compliance standards of the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Federal Environmental Protection Agency (FEPA). Rehabilitation of the affected areas was achieved by stabilizing the mangrove floor by liming and appropriate application of nutrients, followed by replanting the cut seismic lines over a distance of 1,372 km with different mangrove species, including juvenile Rhizophora racemosa, R. mangle, and Avicennia species, which were transferred from nursery points. Quicker post-operational intervention is recommended for future 4D surveys, because the time lag between the end of seismic activity and post-impact investigation is critical in determining the relationship between activity and impact: the longer the intervening period, the more mooted the interaction.

TL;DR: There was significant increase in haemoglobin concentration and decrease white cell count of vitamin E treated rats when compared with gasoline treated rats, suggesting that feeding on diet containing vitamin E could help reverse the effect of gasoline intoxication in the body since it acts mainly as an antioxidant.
Abstract: This study was carried out to ascertain the antioxidant properties of vitamin E on haematoxicity caused by gasoline in albino rats using the haemoglobin and white cell count as indices. Thirty-five rats fed diet containing 1000iu of vitamin E per 100mg of feed for 2 weeks (to saturation) prior experiment were injected gasoline intraperitoneally while symptoms of toxicity and haematological parameters were monitored. The result showed that feeding on vitamin E diet increased the haemoglobin concentration while decreasing the elevated white cell count observed in gasoline treated rats, thereby conferring some protection against gasoline on the rats. The study also showed dose dependent reduction in haemoglobin concentration and increase white cell count in gasoline treated rats compared with increase haemoglobin and decrease white cell count in vitamin E treated rats. There was significant increase in haemoglobin concentration and decrease white cell count of vitamin E treated rats when compared with gasoline treated rats. This suggests that vitamin E conferred some protection on the rats against the haematotoxic effect of gasoline. Therefore feeding on diet containing vitamin E could help reverse the effect of gasoline intoxication in the body since it acts mainly as an antioxidant.

TL;DR: In this paper, an inquiry into how the African Industrial Manager would manage the impressions of his subordinates is described, through the use of focus groups and key informant interviews, with managers and workers in forty-five firms in the manufacturing and service sub-sector of both private and public sectors of the economy.
Abstract: Periodically, African Industrial Managers face management decisions regarding how to build or create images of themselves in the perception of their subordinates. This article describes an inquiry into how the African Industrial Manager would manage the impressions of his subordinates. It identified frameworks and methods that recognise the role processes play in organisational life through impression management formations. This was done through the use of focus groups and key informant interviews, with managers and workers in forty‐five firms in the manufacturing and service sub‐sector of both private and public sectors of the economy. It was discovered that an agenda for practicing impression management in African work organisations could adopt the IMD‐AIMmodel of impression management, which highlights the Physical Appearance and Trait‐Signal Dimension, Direct‐Indirect Acquisitive Dimension and Direct‐Indirect Protective Dimension. This model offers increasing potential benefits for African Industrial Managers and the work organizations they manage within their differentiated environments.
